I am looking for other social media platforms to replace my Twitter account. The platform has and is moving in a direction I don’t condone and can’t support. I will post a Tweet where you may follow once I establish that.
Remembering Lizzie Magie Phillips, inventor of The Landlord’s Game, the game that monopoly is based on, her other games, inventions, patents, teaching, plays, writing, poetry, on International Women’s Day.
Watch for me on PBS’s American Experience, likely to air February 2023. I contributed a great deal to the historical content (photos, documents, research) and provided an interview.
Hi all. I had to take a break last month when my mother passed away. She lived 93 years and a good life. Both missed and loved.
Finally returning to work on the game I just finished up the money art. See photo example of final design.
I will be moving next to the game box design.
I have been doing graphic arts work on the currency for the game. I am basing the design on currency from Charles Darrow’s self published monopoly game before he sold to Parker Brothers and they changed design. I liked the classic look although I may make a few of my own updates.
I was taken ill with a gastrointestinal bug for the last couple weeks. I have mostly recovered but still low energy.
I was unable to work on the new game version during this illness but hope to get back to it this week working on box and money design along with rules layout.
As said in prior Tweet, for new version I am multiplying all prices and points by 5, and removing U. S. dollar sign. I have also added property letters (became color groups) that was on other LGs. I have now completed on board and cards.
I have launched a new website: https://t.co/ZzozRWsQgu The old website will remain as is. The new one is more contemporary and has a signup for the next game release. I will be adding more content as well. Feel free to visit, signup, tell your friends.
After some further consideration I changed the price multiple for the game by a factor of 5, not 10. This yields a more desirable result. I have finish up the cards and will move to the rules text next.
Here is an example of the price update on a title deed card.
The Pike would later become Oriental Ave on modern monopoly. Oriental has a price of 100, rent starts at 6, up to 550 with hotel. The Pike, with a price 250, rent at 40, would only go to 320 with a maximum of 3 houses.
I am multiplying all the prices by 10x on board, cards rules, so 5=50. This brings it more in line with the release of monopoly 30 years later. I am also removing the US dollar sign so the currency becomes anything; euros, pounds, yen... more international. Neither affect play.
The Replica Edition of The Landlord’s Game has sold out. I am holding some early numbers in the edition for a possible Kickstarter premium for the next edition of the game, along with a few for museums and public display. Congratulations if you got one of the replica games!
On the design for the next version I am considering a few street name updates:
Lizzie’s Lane - for inventor Lizzie Maggie Phillips. Anspach Ave - for Ralph Anspach who uncovered the game history. Westtown Way - for Westtown Quaker School as a part of that history.
...Thoughts?
I am looking into a way to have a discussion through my website about new design. There are areas feedback would be great from those of you have played the game. I will post a link once set up. For now, I can still get Twitter replies.
I expect the 1906 Replica Edition will sell out by next week, if not this week. Only twelve sets left to sale as I write!
I will start sharing thoughts and progress on a new updated edition, and I will be asking for your input as I progress. It will be an exciting journey!
I expect the 1906 replica edition will sell out by next week, if not this week. I sold 1/3rd of remaining sets in two days.
I will start sharing thoughts and progress on updated new edition and will be asking for your input as I progress. It will be an exciting journey ahead!
I am done to less than 20 games left for sale in the 1906 Replica Edition! Don’t miss out! I am holding some numbers off from sales for future promos like a kick starter for the production version. Also for museums and educational displays. Starting now on future game paths.
The next game sale will be number 500. If you know anyone who wants a first replica edition act now. Less than 40 games will sell out soon.
I will soon begin design work on the next edition. More production worthy to bring costs down, but no longer the original replica features.
