LANDWISE will evaluate the effectiveness of land-based NFM measures to reduce the risk from flooding in lowland catchments. Part of @NERC_NFM programme.
Read about the fruitful collaboration between @butnorain & @JoClarkUoR for @LandwiseNFM where walking, talking, and listening led to a successful, final presentation of images, #poetry, and #artwork to help in natural flood management

Thanks to @RealFarmED for hosting our project finale event yesterday. Fitting end with a tour of #NFM on site. If you missed this, the team run tours at other times, see tweet below for info. #Thames
We hosted the Landwise Natural Flood Management finale event this week. Over 40 project partners and researchers from organisations including @UniofReading, @CCRI_UK, @EnvAgency, @NaturalEngland & @FWAGAssoc came together to share their findings and to make future plans.

@ARKennet attended the @LandwiseNFM finale event this week. Interesting findings from research in our Thames catchments. Eg increasing organic matter in soil from 1-2% to 2-4% increases soil porosity from 41% to 51%. Meaning healthy soils store more water which reduces flooding

@LandwiseNFM finale! Been a great and challenging #NFM#research project over the last 5 years.
Discussing our findings in person. Evaluating the effectiveness of land based #NFM
Great work team and @JoClarkUoR
Check out some of the initial findings

@missjsknight@cachivers@chrisshortccri@RealFarmED@NERC_NFM@JoClarkUoR@CCRI_UK We’ll share slides on our website. Publications are listed here: https://t.co/SeA9ESE9Vn we’ve had a few delays over the project, so papers coming out now. Couple more recently accepted, a handful submitted and quite a few to be submitted over next few months.
Summary of findings so far:
Mature woodland = highest SOM, porosity, saturate hydraulic con discovery and NFM potential relative to arable and grassland use.
Key = right trees in the right places! 🌲 🌳
