Watching impeachment trial live. A few weeks ago I consulted to a lawyer who was consulting to Rep Raskin. Among other things, pointed him to Jack Sidnell's chapter with all the "Get em out" incitement. Maybe they woulda used this anyway, but...@LangInTrumpEra...cool.
Over nine minutes of the word "fight," as uttered over a timeline of many years, with so many different, incommensurable contexts. This would totally bomb in any course taught at college level in linguistics, sociology, communication or anthropology.
Norma Mendoza-Denton @nirmamd8 has been live-tweeting discourse-analyzing today's news @LangInTrumpEra while I was in a great zoom talk on borderlands. Gotta catch up! #UMDLangIDRacism2021
The line of argument in the second impeachment proceedings crucially relies on setting a timeline on the recurring rhetoric. Every statement must be interpreted in light of the discourse groundwork that had been laid for it.
