Note that natural selection has provided us with a very generous cushion so that counts must typically fall from 150 to <10-20 before increased risk of bleeding.

It is cultural evolution (e.g. surgery) that has led to higher PLT count thresholds.

Abdominojugular (reflux) test: place firm pressure over the abdomen, observe the effect on JVP. It has several applications.

1. It can help distinguish a venous pulse (will rise with abd pressure) from an arterial pulse (no change with abd pressure). See associated video.
