@Jacob_Rees_Mogg Sir Jacob - a valiant effort indeed on your “crypto” YouTube video. For fear of sounding like a strict Housemaster, evaluate the following assertion:
“Bitcoin, not crypto.”
I look forward to a revised YT video in due course, Sir.
@PeterMcCormack@Heccles94 Peter - a bit tangential to your point here, but nonetheless topical and apposite.
@Jacob_Rees_Mogg gets Austrian economics & is making a valiant attempt grappling with “crypto” - see his latest YouTube.
Please help him understand the phrase, “Bitcoin not crypto”.
Means of exchange. Bitcoin won’t be used to buy a coffee, but is highly likely to be used in hi value real estate transactions or for crude oil & other commodity cargo settlements. Blockchain 10-min completions peer-to-peer on multi-million $ transactions is still a huge breakthrough for trad-fi.
Re the history of China, yes. He is in touch up to about 2005. Since then he is light years off target factually - embarrassingly so for the status of @triggerpod, @KonstantinKisin y usted mismo.
I live in the 3rd-lowest GDP/capita province in China, with both provincial capital & rural bases. Dikotter’s characterization of regional infrastructure is so wrong it beggars belief you would have him on. The road & rail network - paved down to small villages of less than 100 habitants - has been in place now for around a decade. With big sustaining capital spending on upkeep, it is the bloodstream between all tiers of society, economic & geographic, and brings major network effects.
While that is just one point of detail, check the one macro metric that Europeans (especially Brits) have lately discovered to be the most realistic & reliable metric for economic health - the bond market. Chinese 10-YT govt bond yields have fallen steadily over the last 5 yrs to 1.7%, with sweet inverse price movement for local retail investors. Yes, locals can and do invest in govt bonds via numerous vehicles. And while at it, check how their AI & tech indices in the Shanghai exchange have performed last 12 months. Tho of course “locked in” through capital controls, local Chinese retail investors in tech indices have 3x-ed the S&P500 in the last 12 months.
Evidentemente, there are many, many controls en la vida coitiadiana, but how these play into society & the economy is highly nuanced. DM for more - te cuento como es el progreso aquí en realidad.
Love your work - hence my concern to keep you on the scent with this topic.
@camelfinance Sí Señor, Don Niño Camello….Total hyperbole from those (normally spot-on) ladies. Plus - both England and Spain are still the World Cup! Plenty further chances for one Armageddon or another.
