I’m not trying to make excuses for Ryan Whitney but his day didn’t just start when he showed up to the game in Buffalo. The man was rollerblading on the highway at noon risking his life to get the city going. Basically his beer chug was a double overtime pizza up the middle but he’d already lugged 38 minutes of amazing hockey. Life isn’t fair. He was playing the perfect game and just had that one brain fart. Kinda like Evan Bouchard sometimes. They’re now calling the dead arm double clutch chug “the Whitney”. His kids friends will be mocking him for eternity. This all has massive ripple effect consequences that will have a generational impact. I’m still processing it.

Game Notes:

Small 2-game slate tonight, which usually means 4+ player stacking is the optimal strategy to separate from the field. Most builds will likely lean toward Oilers stacks, but I’m intentionally fading the popular route by avoiding both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

Instead, I’m committing to the fade with Joel Hofer in net and building around an Islanders stack against a Kings team that has been giving up goals recently.

Running Islanders L1 + L2 correlated with PP1 — Horvat, Schenn, Barzal, Ritchie, and Schaefer — gives strong upside if that power play connects.

Jimmy Snuggerud has also been shooting the puck every chance he gets and is riding a 4-game goal streak, so pairing him with Dylan Holloway is a solid way to get different from the field while still maintaining scoring upside.
