Former CPC MP 4 Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Luv @ForDarlin Adore my grandkids Appreciate all in Miltary, agriculture & the gr8 outdoors Blue Jays Bruins Ti-Cats
Some before/after pics When Darlin’ says i need rocks I just say how many Then we go scouting bcuz she can’t trust my judgement When she finds the “right” ones then the gofer (that’s me) takes tractor & bring them to the queen These 2 beauties were lined up together in the bush
2 rabbits & a pair of doves on the lawn at daybreak & at the other end of the property an older fawn was out grazing & shortly after it left a young black bear came out Hopefully the bear went hungry!
One thing about fishing/hunting in the north is you always see something cool Mr Beaver continually swam by us while we were trolling & finally “slapped” a warning Then we watched this Bald Eagle 🦅 guarding her nest & we saw some great sunrises & sunsets And we even caught fish!
Last 2 pails of leeks & done for this year Almost 5 hours to clean, slice/dice & in freezer bags They are going to get ground in with elk & venison sausage this fall with lots left for Darlin’s leek soup Also kept enough for dinner tonight & of course we pickled 15 jars earlier
The Orioles & the Hummingbirds are in a feeding frenzy Orioles are a nervous bird but we changed the location of the feeder & they have been coming longer than any other year It takes the oranges 🍊 to attract them but the grape jelly is what they really like
Briar & I were out looking for morels yesterday Didn’t find any morels but found a coyote den & not too far away found this leg but the odd thing is there’s no livestock for almost a half mile away Then I found this ball as well Do coyote pups play ball?
Main hydro from Owen Sound serving Bruce Peninsula is out But Darlin got me to dig out her lanterns & candles & they working just fine We’re so dependent on hydro it’s pretty easy to take it 4 granted Neighbour had tree snap near house & 4 of us pulled it away for him Happy man
That’s a wrap for pickled leeks Just need a half dozen freezer bags full to add with venison & hopefully some elk sausage this fall An elk hunt has always been on my bucket list & god willing I’m heading to Saskatchewan in Oct to get er’ done
The Fiddlehead Ferns are almost ready to pick, Jack-In-The-Pulpits are growing fast & these yellow flowers are growing rampant They look similar to a lily but really not sure what they are Spring always means you find something new in the bush almost daily
Dug another big pail of leeks yesterday Kept a few small tender ones to fry up with a moose roast & this big bowl of bulbs will get pickled this morning
Finally finished this spring’s firewood Have to admit there’s something about a nicely piled row of firewood Close to enough for 2 winters cut, split, piled & drying There’s also 23 of these crates full As my late dad would say: “enough hay down boys”
I moved this rock into 1 of Darlin’s flower gardens 5 years ago The following spring 1 Trillium grew on it & 2 the next year 3 last year & now 4 on it this spring Stay tuned - same place next year
