@damintoell@DesertCatfish7@ClayTravis And why would Bass' team go along with it, since Pratt would be their preferred candidate by a mile? Some phone call came in from Sacramento telling them to get over it and start stuffing ballots for Raman? Sure.
@sathaxe@Sam3SF Ok, it's just that statements like God Bless GrowSF indicates they play a kingmaker role of some sort. We're just pointing out they cast a wide net and shouldn't get too much credit for who gets elected or does what.
@sathaxe@Sam3SF They're not moderate. Tech favoring, absolutely. They endorsed Scott Wiener for heaven's sake.
'And friends' also says they hedged their bets by endorsing Breed and Farrell, as @Sam3SF pointed out. Not exactly a profile in courage.
@colorblindk1d@HansFiene I doubt there's any 'go along with this and we'll take care of you' dealmaking involved. If Bass loses and her team then says 'ok, you owe us now' and the 'machine' says no, what is their recourse? To expose it and admit they went along with the scheme?
@colorblindk1d@HansFiene Is it that the Dems', or Bass' preference? Because Bass would much prefer Pratt.
If there were some D operatives rigging things for Raman, wouldn't Bass' team have every incentive to expose it and get Pratt in the runoff? They want to keep their jobs first and foremost.
@rumBaKnight@HansFiene Sure she would? She and Raman combined are 2/3rds of the vote right now. How many of Raman's voters would pull the lever for Pratt in Nov?
Bass is a seasoned pol and could keep her cool no matter what Pratt threw at her.
@Bryan79816270@HansFiene I guess that's possible, but the surface area of participants would skyrocket. It would only take one of them with a cellphone video showing shenanigans to overturn that applecart and trigger a massive scandal. Worth it?
@JamesSurowiecki Voters can always respond to late-breaking news by voting in person, one reason why I don't mail-in. If you do, that's a risk you take.
@LuptakSteve@JohnFox___@MikeBinderjokes@Zigmanfreud They don't understand how many people work at these registrar operations and how lots of them would love nothing more than to expose their jerk boss as a vote-rigging criminal and get a book and film deal out of it as a cherry on top.
@AmanitaFugax@djtechchicago@bonchieredstate I think Bass is a disaster and Raman might be a worse one, but your logic is sound here-- Raman's voters tend to do mail-ins, late and via harvesting. Just how they roll.
People are angry at the drip-drip-drip tabulation. And yes, Bass would prefer Pratt as her opponent.
@JohnFox___@MikeBinderjokes@Zigmanfreud I mean, if you were making $20/hr hand counting ballots and saw your boss or higherups dumping ballots into the trash or marking new ones, wouldn't you quietly record that on your cellphone and become a Fox News darling for a decade?
I'm not a fan of ballot harvesting or waiting up to a week for a postmarked ballot to come in, but mail-in ballots have been around forever.
Regarding the opportunity for mass fraud, all it takes is a low level clerk at a county registrar's office to show that and they are whistleblower of the decade; it would annihilate the political party that did this.
@MikeBinderjokes@Zigmanfreud John's right that Bass would absolutely prefer Pratt to Raman, so why suppress his vote count?
And back to the LARV, wouldn't a low-level clerk love to get a movie and book deal that showed how they exposed the crime of the decade?
@MikeBinderjokes@Zigmanfreud The 'Trumptard' line is lame but he's got a point on the rest. Ballot harvesting is legal in CA, I don't like it but it is, and if there were massive fraud at the LARV all it would take is one guy with a grudge against his boss to blow up the biggest scandal in decades.
