Lab of Shawn Arellano, @WWU Associate Professor and @SPMC Scientist. Studying the life, behavior, and movements of larvae nearshore and in the deep sea.
I have been selected for the 2023 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship!!!!!! This will allow me to pursue a master’s starting this fall with comfort!
The long nights and tears I spent in the middle of a research cruise writing this application were well worth it!

Loving the new @LarvalLab icon? Wishing you had it as a sticker?? Now you can! @LarvalLab member @dexterity_no has taken inspiration from his work in our lab to develop these awesome larvae stickers! We ❤️ them!!!
Everyone needs more #larvae in their life! I just finished digitizing 31 larval (and juvenile) types and made them available as stickers. These were inspired by plankton sorting on research cruises in the Gulf of Mexico studying cold seeps.

Happy Larvalentine’s Day!
Boxes of chocolates? Bouquets of roses? No. Nothing compares to the gift of larvae and their beauty.
Here are some of our favorite larval photos taken for our #SALTLarvae project.

Cruise by Numbers of our #biofilms4larvae cruise aboard the @RVAtlantis.
An incredible international effort to study the vents at the EPR was a success!
Can’t wait to return next year and do it again!

Do you love larvae & going to sea? I'm looking for a #Postdoc on a project about larval settlement & biofilms at hydrothermal vents. https://t.co/n2yDdpHnRX
A few time-lapses of the East Pacific Rise using Dan Fornari’s MISO camera stills and a python script by Dr. Lauren Dykman!
Crab fights and Riftia bloops! So much activity down here, even on the inactive vents.
