Officially Senator Aird.

[Senator Lashrecse Aird @lashrecseaird]

@RoscoeCooperIII, chair of the Henrico board of supervisors, said county leaders have listened to the concerns of the community regarding personal privacy…

This is how it is supposed to work — the public having a say when their privacy is at risk.

Senator @lashrecseaird takes on the fight to ban Flock cameras statewide. 👏 The safety of our constituents shouldn't come at the expense of their civil liberties and basic privacy.

Making the School Construction Commission permanent was a critical step to ensure aging schools get the modernization they need. Our legislation creates a 10-year capital roadmap tied to resources giving us a plan to invest in schools where the need is.

It’s important that so many Virginia communities are having a conversation about their privacy and taking power into their own hands.

[James Libresco @james_libresco]

Alexandria, Va. announced plans take down its Flock cameras, following community pushback and investigative reporting by @AlexTimesNews.

"I do not think there is a role for Flock in this community," Mayor Alyia Gaskins said at a Tuesday City Council meeting.

[Shannon Taylor @ShannonTaylorVA]

NEW AD: I am running for Congress to hold politicians — of both parties — accountable.

That's what I've done as Henrico's top prosecutor, and that's what I'll do in Washington.

[Senator Lashrecse Aird @lashrecseaird]

“I would categorize this moment as a reckoning because we got out ahead of individuals in adopting widespread use of this tool before asking individuals how much of their privacy are they willing to risk.”https://t.co/AagxYUuq7c

[Senator Lashrecse Aird @lashrecseaird]

@BreRVA @kimadamsforva I appreciate it!

While late to the issue, @GlenSturtevant I welcome you to the movement.

I can assure you work has well been underway to deal with @Flock and other surveillance companies during the 2027 session.

[Tyler Englander @TylerEnglander]

Republican State Senator @GlenSturtevant wants to make Flock/other similar cameras illegal in Virginia.

“Virginia should not become a surveillance state,” Sturtevant told 8News.

Criminologist and former police officer Tod Burke says the cameras do help law enforcement and can improve public safety, but concerns over privacy, data retention, and more shouldn’t be taken lightly.

[Attorney General Jay Jones @AGJayJones]

Over ten days, 35 stops, and more than 1,700 miles, Attorney General Jay Jones traveled across Virginia to hear directly from people about the everyday challenges keeping them up at night and discuss how the OAG can help deliver solutions.

[Senator Lashrecse Aird @lashrecseaird]

No parent or student should endure this as part of their college experience.

My heart is with every member of the VSU community impacted. I’ve made myself available to ensure our students have every resource and all the support they need during this difficult time.

[Senator Lashrecse Aird @lashrecseaird]

We can’t look at Flock ALPRs through a singular lens. They may be a law enforcement tool, but a growing surveillance network raises real and has shown to be a real privacy concern when every image captured becomes part of it. https://t.co/VUr4UaEK0f

Thank you for spending time with the amazing REAL LIFE team on the ground in Petersburg. They are making a difference in the lives of individuals everyday!

[Attorney General Jay Jones @AGJayJones]

I was in Petersburg this afternoon, joining REAL LIFE on a Peace Walk. REAL LIFE works to reduce violence by engaging vulnerable community members and connecting them with resources. Grateful for organizations like REAL LIFE for their commitment to lasting public safety.
