Ukraine has lost about 1/3 of its grain export capacity through key Black Sea ports due to intensified Russian attacks. Agricultural exports (grain & vegetable oils) remain Ukraine’s top source of foreign currency, with over 90% shipped via three major ports in Odesa region. Port throughput has dropped from ~6 million tons per month to around 4 million tons. “Russia is systematically striking port infrastructure and logistics with ballistic missiles,” the Ukrainian Agrarian Association states. In the first week of July, grain shipments by rail to Odesa ports fell 11%, while exports dropped 17%. Four out of 13 major terminals have suspended grain purchases.

When, shortly after the Brexit vote, Spain submitted a proposal to the United Nations proposing shared sovereignty between the UK and Spain, dual citizenship for residents, and a unique status for Gibraltar within the European Union, the offer was rejected by the Gibraltar government.

It might be worth bearing in mind, however, that the treaty is also without prejudice to the legal position of Spain. And Spain has long claimed the Rock, pointing out that the United Nations defines Gibraltar as a 'non-autonomous territory that must be subjected to a process of decolonisation'.

Significantly, the treaty gives Spain the power to end the agreement.
