Please understand: the US is the only place that sees latino as a racial umbrella

In actual Latin American soil we don’t consider it a race. It’s a geographical marker of where you were born and raised

White privilege, colorism, internalized racism is deep in the Hispanic experience. We must learn to love our roots, history, colors and languages. Passing is not privilege. Passing is erasure. I am #Latinx. I’m proud. Latinas are beautiful and valuable.

whatever term you prefer — #Latinx, Latina, Hispanic or Latino — this is about recognition & being counted. In choosing what term to use, ask yourself: Who is included and who is excluded? what do we hope to accomplish when we bring forth a word and speak its power?
