This twitter account was created to share and exchange materials for a class at UT-Austin, Latinx Digital Worlds. We welcome you to our space. Lets get started.
Hi! I'm Ezzah and I'm going to dive into my takeaways from Safiya Noble, “Searching for Protections from Search Engines.”
intro:
Search engines will claim they record data for product development & enhancing consumer experiences which have the potential to do more harm than good
From Google searches to storing information, who's in charge of exercising “the right to control information or records”(Noble 123)? If legislation's passed regulating searches, doesn't that go against the 'freedom of speech' concept/access to research?
Whether it be the Zapatistas and the web, teens and TikTok, or Twitter and hashtag activism we have seen how Latinx, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ communities adapt and force different digital platforms to suit their disruptive needs. Goodnight and goodbye!
This thread is for the night owls out there. I’m Ara and here are my takeaways from “Organizing MySpace: Youth Walkouts, Pleasure, Politics, and New Media” by K. Wayne Yang.
Do Yang’s conclusions on digital organizing hold value for a post-MySpace, post-chain text messages world? Yes, I think this piece is timeless because as we have seen in class “effective organizing always intersects with the possibilities and constraints provided by space.”
