As a single mother I am saying this:

Men have a sense of balance when it comes to providing routine and discipline but also support, encouragement, and show unwavering dedication to their children. Men also tend to lead with more logic than emotion while still allowing room for their children to feel and express emotions. They also tend to be able to separate their trauma they’re healing from their responsibilities as a father.

A lot of women (not all but a large majority) don’t know how to balance all of these things on top of not allowing their emotions get the better of them. A lot of women also are jealous of their children, harbor spoken or unspoken resentment toward them for a broken home, or refuse to break the cycle of trauma in some capacity. Hell, some women with a partner struggle with this as well but it can become more apparent when single.

You have a political problem, so let’s talk.

I just finished a conversation with one of your state assembly members. He explained that you have been clamouring for a port for 26 years 😏

And that Oseakwa Seaport in Ihiala LGA, Anambra existed up until the 1950s but later became moribund.

I asked why, and he said you have a political problem. He believes it’s a matter of political will and that nobody — not even the governors — wants to put their money where their mouth is.

Now, in my state, we have three ports with one more on the way: Apapa, TinCan, and the new Lekki Port. Badagry Deep Seaport was also approved by FEC in 2022. So it’s coming!

Now, do you know when Lagos State started the advocacy, politics and work for the Badagry Deep Seaport? In 2012. That means it took 10 years just to get the green light.

After lobbying for a decade, securing national and state approvals, a PPP structure, and a formal business case, we are still searching for investors because the project will cost about $4 billion.

Now, let’s look at the model I think the South East can learn from & adopt — the LFTZ Lekki Port.

The Lagos State Government first proposed the Lekki Port in 2003 — that’s 22 years ago.

By 2006, the conceptualisation was complete and the state government began courting investors. By the third year, they had made some headway.

In 2011, the project company — Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL) — was incorporated. The political lobbying required to get the NPA and the then-opposition PDP-led Federal Government on board was done.✅

At that time, Theodore Orji (Abia), Peter Obi (Anambra), Sullivan Chime (Enugu), Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), and Rochas Okorocha (Imo) all knew Lagos was playing the political game to secure a new port, even while in opposition. 😒

But I guess FAAC money was sweet & they were in power! Your desire for a port was not their problem or priority. So they did little or nothing. Lack of vision or being landlocked are not acceptable excuses.

For four years, Lagos State worked at securing debt financing for this port. Tolaram from Singapore — the makers of Indomie — stepped in, so did various local and international finance institutions and China was also eager.

We secured loans of about $1.5 billion.

Our time had come.

Construction started and was completed within three years.

That was 22 years of patience, politics, toil and grit.

No excuses, no lamentations, no tears. Just work — 22 years of persistence until we got what we wanted.

Lekki Port is Nigeria’s first privately financed deep seaport and, as of its completion in 2023, the single largest private infrastructure investment in the country.

PDP was in power for 16 years. The South East was a major power bloc. What did your political elite and leaders do about your demand for a port when you had unfettered access, belonged to the same political party as the center, and held a FIRM grip on power?

Ndigbo political leadership failed to give its people a port.

You want a port, right? No problem. What the beloved PDP could not do for you in 16 years, Tinubu will do it.

But first, let’s build you a standard-gauge railway. A $3 billion loan has already been secured for it. It will pass through Enugu and Aba, and it will grow the South East economy exponentially. 🔥

Hopefully, Alex Otti and Soludo can replicate the Lekki Port model, because it would be ironic if Lagos starts and completes the Badagry Port before you get your act together.

And remember: the game is the game. And the game is politics. Play the game and do what you need to do to get what you need to get.
