@SK_Maddox @HartRollins I SO agree! That negative is going to always stick in the mind of our parents. I try to start every IEP meeting out with a positive. Our new IEP program doesn’t do it that way but I scroll down to the strengths first. It doesn’t seem right starting a meeting with the needs.

@Cody59304392 @HartRollins Or they will immediately say they should be in a self contained classroom because of their behavior but they are not doing anything to help support their communication in the classroom.

@Cody59304392 @HartRollins Those 2 cases were speech only students who should have been receiving more services but that was in a time period where too many kids were being placed in speech & they should have had more services. Thankfully it has evened out now! Those 2 cases ended up in a sep school. ☹️

@HartRollins We have made some progress though this school year. I think the pandemic helped some kids adjust to change honestly. One of my students was able to tell me the other day that he turned over a desk bc he was ready to come to speech & I was late. 😐🤷🏻‍♀️ At least we used our words!

@HartRollins I have a few students that really struggle with this. If my schedule changes, they must be prepared. If not (an unexpected change), they will completely meltdown.

@SK_Maddox @HartRollins I love using manipulatives when I teach a skill. I am definitely not teaching a difficult skill like subtraction with regrouping but I love to pull out mini trains or cars for my boys when we are learning the basic facts. Visuals are always so helpful!

@Cody59304392 @HartRollins I love the idea of a school store. My language brain keeps thinking of all the possible ways that would benefit functional communication as well. You could also try maybe a menu from their favorite restaurant and have them order!

@HartRollins @binkley_sadie I love Google but I’m just getting comfortable with it. I did create a google form to send to teachers for IEP input. Overall, they prefer that method so that makes me happy! I also use Google Docs to make an IEP snapshot for them with student supports. My next goal is data!

@HartRollins Some of my older kids have figured that method out so I switch up my characters sometimes. This past week I used a tally mark for correct and “O” for incorrect. One of my students said, “man I’m getting thousands!” 🤪 Not quite, bud. 🤣

@Cody59304392 @HartRollins They are tough and TIME CONSUMING. It takes a hour to give a standardized assessment for speech. Then, we have to back that up with a second measure. 😳 I hope your school year is going well! Didn’t you start Face to Face recently? I hope that is going smoothly!

@binkley_sadie @HartRollins I wish I were more technology minded and used it more in my instruction and data. I did just get a touchscreen board! 🙌🏻 Super Duper Publication has a wonderful digital library that I use with virtual therapy. I am going to start using it with my traditional students now!
