That was King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV calmly inspiring his team, 600 meters away from summiting the peak of Rwenzori mountain.

Climbing a mountain isn’t everyone’s cup of tea; it humbles you, it takes extra courage. The world’s youngest monarch laid down his comfort and took on the challenge for a bigger cause.

He was leading a team to Rwenzori to show the impact of climate change on the glaciers on the equator and challenge the world to do something about it.

Thank you Your Majesty for teaching us endurance. We owe it to you to conserve our environment.

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at approximately 10:00 p.m. this evening.

This is an immeasurable loss to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and the nation of Uganda.

I call upon the people of Tooro to remain united, calm and prayerful during this difficult time.

The continuity of the Crown is assured. His Majesty leaves behind a Prince as his heir, whose identity will be formally revealed at the appropriate time, in accordance with the traditions and customs of Tooro Kingdom.

An official statement will follow with further details, including the funeral and mourning arrangements.

May His Majesty the King rest in eternal peace.
