@mcycee@stratoballoon The smaller balloon deflates as the main balloon + flight train ascends. It's job is just to make the gondola float a little bit so that it is easier to launch with the big balloon.
Launching in 1.5 hours! I'm in Kingston so all I can do to check the status of our experiment is to watch our status LED blink on the HiCIBaS live video feed.
Our experiment will launch after we are back in Kingston but as a bonus we got to watch the BeSAFE experiment launch last night at sunset and it was spectacular!
To test out our ability to track position the Canadian Space Agency will launch BVEXTracker. Basically it is a shoebox-size plastic box full of position tracking sensors.
On April 8th, 2024, the first total solar eclipse in almost 700 years will pass through Kingston! A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon lies perfectly between the Earth and Sun, completely blocking the Sun's light. In Kingston, this blockage will last 3 minutes and 4 seconds!#ygk
Exactly one year from today at 3:22pm Kingston time there will be a total solar eclipse. The Moon will fully block our view of the Sun and we will have a full 3 minutes of darkness! #Eclipse2024
Our first @LMT_TolTEC images from commissioning data are beautiful. Here M1 (Crab Nebula) at 1.1/1.4/2.0mm. More engineering and commissioning data tonight, hopefully, and more info on first images here: https://t.co/7IhwXVkjLE @gtmlmt_oficial@inaoe_mx
Our next Astronomer in Residence (AIR) is arriving at Killarney Park this July 18th! Astronomer Parisa Nozari will be up at Killarney Park until July 31st. Parisa is a graduate student in Astronomy and Astrophysics at Queen's University.
