It should:
1. evoke sympathy
2. take your audience on a journey
3. be intentional and clear on the purpose
4. relate to your audience
5. charm and fascinate

Empty signifiers can be used to represent activist movements. They are ‘empty’ because they don’t have a deep meaning. However they are considered meaningful for particular groups. Leaders can use them to express their purpose.

Collinson and Ackroyd’s (2005) resistance continuum enabled me to understand differing types of resistance and reflect on situations where I have resisted, without even knowing it. I am now more aware of different actions that could be considered resistance.

#OUB329 WK14 - in order to be efficient, leaders need to identify the type of challenge they are facing to determine the more effective response. Otherwise they could waste time and resources, or ignore the wider issue.

- #Tame: solved before. Need individuals with knowledge to help.
- #Wicked: not been solved or fully solved before. Requires collaboration due to multiple factors.
- #Critical: requires urgent action. Leaders dictate response.

Whist achieving #positivesum outcomes is the main goal, there are certain scenarios, particularly in a #turbulent and #competitive context, where leaders may need to pursue a #negativesum game. As leaders, we need to acknowledge this and adapt as required.

Developing a shared and accepted #visionofsuccess can ensure people are engaged with what you are trying to achieve.
It can also help create #positivesum outcomes, however this is not guaranteed.

#OUB329 WK11 - #constructivedissent is positive for organisations. In order to create this environment, #leaders need to encourage debate and discussion. Previously I would have been reluctant to do this but I now see how a culture of constructive dissent should be embraced.

#OUB329 WK11 - #Conflict shouldn’t always be avoided. #Leaders should direct people towards #constructive #dialogue. Whilst conflict is disruptive in some contexts, if handled well it can also provoke conversations previously not considered and result in positive outcomes.

#OUB329 WK10 - I learnt the importance of considering the interests and perspectives of #followers. I will make sure I actively seek to understand these views so I can improve relationships with followers.

#OUB329 WK10 - #Followers are key to #leadership. Followers, like employees, have the ability to steer the direction of an organisation, hold leaders accountable and vote out ineffective leaders. They must therefore be considered by leaders.
