My sister’s scrawl annotates the pages, and I land on one where she’s written:

My cat has trapped me in my house for days. I know it sounds dumb, but any time I go near an outside door, he blocks it.

After so long, I thought I could handle what he is. Cat-like qualities mask that he’s a demon in a fur coat. His piercing hiss reminds me otherwise.

My sister and I used to sit by the window as kids reading stories of fairytales and magic. She believed them. She brought them to life.

It feels like, wherever she is, she’s calling to me.
