10 Signs Your God is a Narcissist

(Disclaimer: I am not a psychologist. But I know enough and have experienced enough about narcissism to be able to have an opinion or two on it. So here goes.)

This is kinda tongue-in-cheek. But also kinda true.

Is your god a narcissist? Here are ten questions you can ask yourself. Frankly, if you can answer even one in the affirmative, there’s a chance he’s a narcissist. If you can answer more than half in the affirmative, then I’d say yes he is. If you can answer all ten in the affirmative, run!

1. Does he need constant praise and adoration from you?

2. Does he claim to be smarter than you?

3. Does he believe he’s better than everybody else?

4. Does he disappear for days without notice or explanation?

5. When he hurts you, does he say you are weak and imaging things?

6. When he hurts you, does he say you made him do it?

7. When he hurts you, does he say you’ll be a better person for it?

8. Does he always make you pay for everything?

9. Do you feel like he’s always watching and micromanaging you?

10. Does he belittle you, shame you, and make you apologize for every little thing?

Like I said, these are meant to provoke… not only a smile, or even laughter... but also hopefully some thought.

So much spirituality can be very unhealthy, especially if we are suffering narcissistic abuse in it.

Rant: The second coming, the apocalypse, the end of days is probably one of the most harmful doctrines believed and taught.

Why?

Because it makes people yearn for things to be over, to come to an end. It makes people want everything to die.

Those who talk about the rapture say that those of us who have chosen rightly will be gathered in the arms of Jesus, leaving the rest behind.

"We will be with Jesus and the rest of you can go straight to Hell!"

"We are the pure and chosen few. The rest are damned."

Now, if you don't believe this, if you don't believe there will be an apocalypse, an end, a separation of the sheep and the goats, the wheat and the tares, then you're not really a believer. You're a heretic that will also burn.

The contempt for the things in this world shows through it all.

How many times I've seen people on X tweet "I can't wait until Jesus comes!" Or they are trying to predict its end with excitement.

Even my good mother says it regularly, with a giggle even, "I can't wait until the Savior comes."

The extreme Muslims are the same. They cannot wait for death and destruction to overtake and overwhelm the world. They can't wait for a final solution!

Christians think it's their job to help Armageddon occur.

What does this do?

Prevents the business of improving the world. Living as humans, studying and acquiring knowledge on health and medicine, improving the environment, etc. -- it all can be scrapped.

My good friend recently asked me if he should take money out of his 401k. He probably won't need it sitting there because the second coming is soon!

How harmful is that?

During a recent primary program in my Latter-Day Saints ward, a 9-year-old boy said in front of everyone that he was told he'll probably see Jesus in the second coming. "I'm excited for it," he said.

With this theology, we love death and an idea more than we love life and the world we live in. We can't desire to improve our world when we expect, and hope for, its end!

Can we truly be moral with this? When we look at everyone who doesn't believe like we do, and we know that death is coming to them and can't wait to bring it on?

Can we truly want to improve this world when we look at it as evil and deserving of a final end?

For 2,000 years Christians have preached the Apocalypse is imminent.

Maybe now we should change. We should hope to make the world better and not hope for it's destructive end.
