It is incredibly heartening to see so many #familylaw professionals working together to address issues and assist worried and confused families. Disputes may still happen during this difficult time, but at least families are now aware of possible issues and consequences. #COVID19
As a last resort, you can make an application to the court and both be judged on your decisions. If you did not act in your child’s best interests during the #pandemic then your parenting capability could be questioned, with arrangements potentially changed against your wishes.
The guidance issued yesterday by the President of the #FamilyDivision means that #children can move between their parents’ homes. Making a reasonable decision that has the child’s best interests at heart must be done by both parents working together. Try the following steps:
You must make safe alternative proposals for your #children to continue to see their other parent, preferably by regular video calls. If this is not an option, phone and email are acceptable.
Last night’s discussion with @hannahmeg focussed on the President of the Family Division’s guidance, which was released yesterday afternoon. See here for a link to the guidance, and user friendly notes on the main Q&As we received on my Instagram stories: https://t.co/Vgq44eytCB
After today’s developments, @hannahmeg and I will be going live on Instagram at 8pm to discuss what the latest #coronavirus news means for #families and #children in the UK: https://t.co/aIofYAJ906
Communication will be important for separated parents with children during #lockdown. Let’s continue to be reasonable and keep in mind the overriding objective, which is to limit the spread of the #virus. #familylaw#coronavirus
#MichaelGove clarified this morning that children under 18 will be able to move between separated parents during #CoronavirusLockdown. Any movement should be child focused: no two families are the same, and this guidance will be dependent on what is in a child’s best interests.
