Humourous road sign (“Oh no, roadworks”) in the city of Hull, East Yorkshire, England, written in Hull dialect. (In the Hull dialect, /oʊ/ becomes /ɜː/).
Good thing the work’s not being done in winter, or they might have snerr to contend with! #errnerr
Quite incredible that this should be seen as a ‘win.’ Underlines the UK’s disgraceful indifference to the language of others but also most of those the government will be dealing with speak flawless English and understand the issues way better than, say, Dominic Raab
@HeathenOnEarth_ @PeggyBrava The emptiness of a soul that has no self-worth but that supplied by flattering sycophants, has no success unless others fail, has no joy unless others suffer, and, in the absence of such external sustenance, shrivels into a lifeless puppet, waiting for purpose again.
This person just doesn't get the world. She thinks countries like Germany, France, The Netherlands etc don't have a global focus. She should check out their exports. Why does the Beeb have to inflict such ignorance on us?
The #languageshow starts today at Olympia West, London. Unfortunately, for the second year running, I can’t be there, so I’d just like to wish all those attending a great weekend. Hopefully I’ll be back in 2020! #xl8
How spelling caused an international incident "...As a young journalist, I was asked to type up a top-secret memo. Now my mess-up has made it to the big screen. The film dramatises a monumental mess-up on my behalf – the biggest mistake of my career." https://t.co/imLozgnj5A
The rebellion against Boris Johnson is going up not down.
We won't let this dangerous clown destroy jobs, threaten our national security and strip UK and EU citizens of the rights they deserve.
Bojo has already lost his mojo. He's got no majority, mandate or morality 👋🏿
But what you fail to tell your followers is that 145,000 people emigrated FROM Britain TO the EU in the same period under the right of free movement that will disappear after Brexit. It was the lowest net EU immigration for almost a decade
Saw this #multilingual sign at #McDonalds. I remember they didn't like the #translation of "I am loving it" into German as "Ich liebe es" (I love it) because executives wanted to retain the present progressive/continuous tense which doesn't exist in #German
Another day, another job editing a text that was not translated, but words were just substituted.
If a verb is in one tense in the source, it shouldn't necessarily be in that same tense. Different languages have different conventions.

Dear @Jeremy_Hunt
I was born in Soviet gulag and been imprisoned by KGB a few times in my life.
Happy to brief you on the main differences between #EU and Soviet Union. And also why we escaped the #USSR
Anytime. Whatever helps.
