@Konkanist But actually when we visiteda Kuladevata temple in Goa, some priest also used the word आनु for father. So I was confused if it is a Goan thing as well.

@Konkanist Oh ok! And अण्णा is the word for brother for them. We use आनु for elder brother here but when this word is used while writing something we are told to give explanation in brackets that it means elder brother and not father!

@Konkanist The usage of the word तांदूळ for rice is not there in central Kerala Konkani. The word is completely replaced by the word वोरोवु or ओरोवु ! But it is interesting to note that many of the words used above for rice related items are kept intact.

@Konkanist That's true. Kerala Konkani hasn't grown much because of this narrow mindedness. We don't have words for many objects in Konkani here because we don't even try to accept the words used in Goa.

@Konkanist I think this happens because of lack of formal education.Forget grammar, many people this side, don't even speak the language now. That is the state!

@Konkanist The gender classification in central Kerala Konkani is very eccentric ofcourse !

@Konkanist Yes! I totally agree with what you say! But here we totally resort on spoken Konkani and there is no formal education given in the language except in just 2 primary schools.
