NPR this morning earnestly discussed “the affordability crisis.” Households at the bottom are hurting in relative terms, but that’s always true. Real median household income has steadily risen since 2022 at the 50th, 25th, and 10th percentiles. Why is now being called a crisis?
@brew56200 I’m afraid that we have plenty of evidence of commodity monies being used in spot transactions between strangers. Money for goods, no credit involved.
@PeterBoettke There’s a fair percentage of nonsense in the 19th century pamphlet literature on money and banking. But the cost of publishing kept the absolute amount low.
@cptsat@GeorgeSelgin If one’s purpose is storage with immediate redeemability, one may indeed prefer a warehouse. But if one’s purpose is low cost payments, one may instead prefer a fractional reserve bank (no storage fee, interest on checking).
