The core principle stays the same for newly promoted teams:

-Keep the core
-Sign a player/a few players that can put the ball in the net
-Sign a keeper who ca bail you out

With a fitting system you can hide everything else, but a manager can not score goals nor keep them out

Ben is talking about the EXACT same formula I've been talking about for basically a year now

Keep the core, keep the emotionally connected players, make sure the fitness levels are good, buy a goal scorer and a keeper *if needed*

Lets see what Ipswich, Ston, Leicester do now...

However, I am talking about purely the players' side right now.

Fact is, there are a lot of things that the French PLAYERS also did not do very well there

A lot of people want to put the blame on Lacroix so I will defend him a bit here

1) Upamecano: standing completely flat footed and far away from Olmo the second Porro is about to play the pass.

2) Koné and Doué holding hands (and still not being able to win the ball back (1/4)

Obviously they still have at least 2 EUROs and 1 WC in them before we even have to talk about this but just putting it out there

This is likely their golden generation, before a slight dip again (like 2006-2016)

They have to *win* at least 1 of the next 3 to avoid a drought

Crazy thing is France's youth teams have lacked a lot in recent times.

Pretty sure they have got knocked out in the group stages in many tournaments and when you look at the teams, nothing special comes to eye

If they waste this gen, it might be bleak for them for some time

Upamecano wins his duel the goal is prevented.

Koné/Doué tracks Porro the goal is prevented.

Doué/Koné initially positions themseves lower the goal is prevented.

Digne tucks in more the goal is prevented.

It was superb from Porro, but every goal requires a mistake

This is what Yamal does. People will say things like "he has not scored" etc, but will ignore things like this. Yamal had to do NOTHING and he half-created the goal, just because Digne was scared of him.

Not to mention the penalty he won.

Its great to see that the so called "lesser nations" have found a way to compete with the bigger boys

Compact 442/451/4141/541 with no one jumping stupidly out of the shape and we are going to see many more upsets this World Cup

The only problem is that it allows Ger to generate space in the wider areas and 1v1/2v2 Ger will demolish them

Would like to see Curacao's fullbacks get stuck in a bit more and assert themselves, a bit too easy for Germany's wingers IMO

Look at Bmouth, Newcastle's first years under Howe etc etc.

Ederson is not going to ManUtd to carry them to #21, he's going there to raise the fitness levels of the overall squad and win them games of football.

Can we even blame Hojlund atp, this guy should have been eased in as a young rotational striker with 0 pressure...instead he is being used as our main striker with the pressure of the world

I'm sorry but Onana is not up to standard, simple as that.

He can make as many saves as he wants, if he constantly fucks up every other game, there's a clear problem.

Not like his long distance distribution is any good as well...
