Jeff Bezos is worth $373.4 billion. The most valuable thing anyone gave him that day was 30 seconds from a worker with 36 years in aerospace.
The clip is exactly that long. The worker walks up in a hard hat on the factory floor and says he spent more than ten years at Boeing, Northrop Grumman and United Technologies, three of the biggest names in American aerospace.
Then he tells the second-richest man in the world that this is the best company he has ever worked for.
Bezos stops, smiles and says:
"Thank you for taking the time to tell me that."
The worker adds that this will be his last job. Bezos looks surprised, says "Oh," and keeps walking.
A man with 36 years in the industry had nothing left to gain from flattering anyone. He picked one company out of four, and he said so to the owner's face.
Was he praising the company, or the man who happened to walk past him that day?
