Former Scottish Secretary Helen Liddell and member of the official Philip's Review tells @BBCRadioScot "We were misled" by the Ministry of Defence over the circumstances of the 1994 crash.

The truth has to be told; these families deserve the truth. The MOD can no longer hide; they can no longer deny these families the closure they deserve. Why do we have to campaign for the truth? It is disgraceful that these institutions can still do this in 2026.
Powerful speech from Margaret Aspinall & Sue Roberts about the importance of Hillsborough Law Now and their decades long fight for justice. ✊

The Prime Minister’s shameful treatment of the @ChinookJustice families raises serious concerns about fairness, accountability and the duty owed to those who have lost loved ones in service to this country. He must now agree to a judge-led inquiry into why their loved ones were forced to fly in an unairworthy helicopter.

I agree.
The public office accountability bill would not be an immediate fix, and you're so right Ste there will always be scandals.
The aim of the POAB is to prevent the cover up, lessen the time that families have to wait for evidence gathering and documents being released in turn ensuring a quicker (but not rushed) Inquiry and/or inquest.
It will also prevent the sheer stress and worry about finding the thousands needed for legal fees whilst organisations have the best, most expensive legal team in the land.
Then, as you say, we need to tackle the culture within these organisations.
A long road ahead but it is worth it. We have already achieved so much ✊️❤️

The MoD @DefenceHQ is no longer fit for purpose. It operates as if it is still in the last century where the ‘old brass’ have the right to lie and mislead and are accountable to no one. It needs clearing out of elderly military officers who have been promoted beyond their skill sets. Clearing out of career civil servants who seek to serve themselves first and the country second. You only have to look at how veterans are treated in this country to realise how unfit the MoD is. 70 years on, @atomiclabrats nuclear test veterans and their families are still fighting for truth and justice and uncovering evidence of lying and cover-ups at the highest level. Then there are the other military scandals, @ChinookJustice for one. This is not the MoD the UK needs or deserves. It is the MoD the MoD needs and that is just another scandal the British people have to endure. There are good people at the MoD but the old guard ensures that injustices remain in place and fight against those they have harmed. I have faith in @JohnHealey_MP to do the right thing but he will have to fight his own MoD top brass. Enact @NowHillsborough to help protect the future of everyone. #NuclearTestVeterans #News #Justice #HillsboroughLaw #MOD #Injustice #Truth #Scandal #SocialJustice #HLN #HillsboroughLawNow #NuclearWeapons #Nuclearbombs #NuclearWeaponsTesting #NukedBlood #BloodyTruth #MinistryofDefence #Trauma #MentalHealth #CoverUp
We can gather from this that the MoD is no longer fit for purpose and has misled or lied about this and other scandals for many years. Time for a shake up of MoD and implementation of the Hillsborough Law in full now.
Listen to Baroness Helen Liddell, a member of the official Philip's Review into the 1994 crash, speaking on @BBCRadioScot - saying she too was misled, along with @LiamFox - by the MoD. #chinookjustice

Sainsbury's boss eyes bumper £7.3m payday as shoppers reel from higher food prices.
Up from £5.4m last year – 200 times average employee pay.
Govts preach pay restraint to workers, silence on exec pay, shareholder returns.
Let workers vote on exec pay.

Speaking on @BBCRadioScot@AndyTobias1994 says the PM and the government have the opportunity now to do the right thing - order a fresh inquiry, use Hillsborough Law to get to the truth. We hope Sir Liam's letter will motivate him to do that.
"Picturesque river polluted with sewage just 13 days after being given official bathing status."
Yep the River Avon at Salisbury was designated as a bathing spot on 15th May and just 13 days later on the 28th the EA have to issue a pollution warning due to E. coli levels. What a shambles.

#OnThisDay 1984. The Daily Mirror published confidential letters that reveal Margaret Thatcher had urged a settlement in British Rail pay negotiations so to isolate striking miners.
The revelations came after Thatcher had previously denied any involvement in the #MinersStrike
“Would you trust a party that wants to repeal the Equality Act, strip back workers’ rights, legalise zero-hours exploitation and fire and rehire, with the creation of your replacement human rights framework?”

The video doesn’t show it but Andy was in tears that day. The first UK Minister to say enough is enough let’s change the law so the files can be released on Hillsborough. It was time for the truth.
I am so proud to have the support of Marie Lyon, Makerfield resident and indomitable Primodos campaigner.
I will support her and all the families affected until they get justice.
Tune in to @BBCRadioScot Sunday Show tomorrow at 11am to hear ex Scottish Sec Helen Liddell, a member of the Philip’s Review team, supporting @LiamFox and our calls for a fresh review. #chinookjustice
