Finance Bill 2026 is requiring every adult to give the Government their left kidney by December, but sure let’s go on the streets to celebrate a VARsenal trophy. Who cursed us?
🚨🎙️ Alan Shearer on Southampton expulsion from the Championship play-offs and having to play Championship next year with a points handicap
“let’s be clear on this – what Southampton did with the spying and the cameras, that’s wrong. It’s not acceptable in the game, full stop. You can’t be going around filming opponents like that. But expelling them from the play-offs? For me, that’s really harsh and I don’t think the punishment fits the crime.
These players have given everything this season. They’ve been out there week in, week out, putting their bodies on the line, working their socks off to try and get the club promoted. They didn’t make those decisions upstairs, they weren’t involved in any of that – they’re just focused on playing football and doing their job on the pitch.
And now it feels like all their hard work is being taken away from them. I’ve been at Southampton, I know what it means to the dressing room when the players buy into what the manager’s asking and give their all. They shouldn’t be the ones suffering the most here. The club needs to sort out what went on at the top, but this feels very tough on the lads who had nothing to do with it. It’s a difficult one.“
Having 8 players on £300k/w wages eats up £124.8m annually. Subtract that from a £490m revenue, and the board is left with roughly £365.2m to cover internal costs, stadium maintenance, staff, and the rest of the squad.
If there is one thing BlueCo got right, it is fixing this wage structure. At least for now.
Look at Barcelona. When their financial crisis hit, they were forced to slash salaries, losing top talent and keeping only those playing for the badge. They recognized the desperate need for new revenue, which is why they are expanding their stadium capacity from 99k to 105k and adding Spotify to the historic name.
Yet, the same Chelsea fans who complain about a sustainable wage structure are the ones blocking ownership from moving away from Stamford Bridge or selling naming rights to generate massive new revenue.
Honestly, between the fanbase and BlueCo, I don't know who the actual problem is anymore.
🚨🔵 Xabi Alonso is confident he can succeed at Chelsea regardless of today’s result.
While European football could offer a route to silverware, some internally believe a season without Europe may actually help Alonso implement his ideas more effectively with longer training periods and fewer matches.
