EU vs Caribbean Community fight for high net worth individuals.

Few EU countries offer path to citizenship by investment in which case one gets a resident card that provides access to Schengen without waiting for the 5-10 years long waiting to meet all the pre conditions for a Passport.

Caribbean Community (CC) offers Citizenship By Investment (CBI) where you get the passport after a complete due diligence and meeting many other preconditions in 2 years time.

CC investments requirement is half of EU, while due diligence is pretty strict. Now EU has threatened CC to stop the CBI completely or they will deny access to EU.

CC has three options now:

1. Shelve the CBI programs just like Malta, Cyprus and Bulgaria did.

2. Negotiate with EU, increase residency requirement from 5 days to 30 days or beyond. Include EU approved agency to due diligence process or add EU in the process. Raise minimum investment levels by another 50% to bring them closer to EU levels. Move visa free to e-visa.

3. Continue the CBI program as is and let EU revoke access. The passports will still provide access to 120 countries (without Schengen).

Rahul Gandhi is saying the same thing about the awards given to Modi — that they are AI-generated or self-managed to project a global statesman image. It has actually enhanced his reputation as a global con man.

Even The Guardian, a reputable paper, flagged the same issue and questioned the credibility of those awards.
Modi's desperate measures to import fake laurels from abroad are an attempt to stabilise a reputation that is pathetically unstable at home.

Few decisions make sense at that time and appear to be mistakes a generation later.

I just met 65 years old nephew of Brig Usman aka The Lion of Nowshera, at a breakfast today.

Their ancestors migrated from Khoramsher, Iran to Hindustan during Mughal Emperor Shahjahan’s time and were appointed Kazi (Juror in the Royal Court). To date, the family continues to carry that title as surname.

Mr Kazi mentioned how his elder uncle, Brig Usman, despite his father’s insistence decided to stay in India, after the British partitioned it into two dominions, while his father migrated to Karachi, Pakistan.

Mr Kazi himself born in Karachi, had an exceptional international corporate career that took him from Karachi to the world. He mentioned those who left behind in India are now finding it very hard due to increased intolerance & religious bigotry. He was happy that his dad made the right call and moved the family to Pakistan.

It will be good to know how the descendants of Brig Usman in India doing.
