I really dislike the concept of “we experience people differently” because what have I done for you to be horrible to me but kind to the next person?? 😭
A lot of MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES disappear when bills are paid, rent is secure, and the fridge is full. Peace is expensive. And pretending money doesn't affect mental health is privilege.
A Gen Z joined the team.
Week one.
During onboarding, the manager said,
“We sometimes stay late during peak periods.”
Gen Z nodded.
Then asked,
“Is that paid… or just expected?”
The room went quiet.
- No attitude.
- No rebellion.
- Just a question.
Later that day, HR mentioned “growth opportunities.”
Gen Z replied,
“Does growth include raises, or just more responsibility?”
Again, silence.
- No laziness.
- No entitlement.
- Just clarity.
That’s when the team realized something.
When people say
“Gen Z is lazy,”
what they really mean is:
Gen Z watched old generation
- skip meals,
- miss birthdays,
- work weekends,
- and burn out
only to be told
“budgets are tight”
and “be grateful you have a job.”
So Gen Z chose differently.
- They don’t romanticize overwork.
- They don’t confuse suffering with ambition.
- They don’t trade health for praise.
They still work hard.
They just refuse to work for nothing.
It’s not laziness.
It’s pattern recognition.
And honestly,
after everything old generation went through…
Can you really blame them?
“But you survived”
I disassociate, like a lot.
My heart drops when someone raises their voice.
I shut down very easily.
I'm far too observant.
I always feel like a burden.
I isolate often.
But yeah, sure, I guess I survived.
I have a different take and parents will hate it BUT here goes.
Living at home comes with responsibility. Chores are part of communal living, respect, and contribution. However, authority doesn’t cancel out kindness.
The problem was never doing chores.
The problem is how power is exercised.
There’s a massive difference between:
“Please wash the dishes before you sleep” and “You’re lazy. You never do anything. Go do the dishes now.”
One is parenting.
The other is control wrapped in disrespect.
Parents don’t struggle with assigning chores, but they struggle with basic emotional regulation and kindness toward their own children. Commands are easier than conversation. Insults are easier than patience. Fear is easier than mutual respect.
Final interview.
They ask: “Why should we hire you?”
Your mind blanks.
You say “hardworking and passionate.”
Interview ends. No offer.
Here’s what they actually want…
when i vent. I tell both sides. I never just tell my side cause I always wanna know if I'm tripping or not. I'm not venting for you to be on my side. I'm venting for another point of view.
