When you’re a mom, you don’t stay quiet when something is wrong. I fought like a mother in Tallahassee. I protected children from predators and took on the gun lobby and won. But there’s more to do.

Now, I’m running for Florida Senate in District 30 to keep fighting to make life safer and more affordable for Florida families. 

I’ve done it before: I fought to successfully eliminate the sales tax on baby diapers and adult incontinence products, expanded Medicaid coverage twice for new mothers and babies, and worked to lower prescription drug costs for seniors.

I also passed some of the nation’s toughest laws protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation, cracked down on human trafficking, and expanded mental health support for Florida’s schoolchildren and first responders.

I know that in order to win in Tallahassee, you’ve gotta fight like a mother. And that’s what I’ll do as your Senator.

I have spent my career standing up for children, families, and communities, and I know that keeping people safe means having the courage to act.

I’m heartbroken to learn of the passing of legendary reporter and all around incredible human being, Brendan Farrington.

Brendan spent his career covering Florida politics, but his reporting went far beyond the halls of the Capitol. He helped shine light in dark places, bringing attention to sexual violence, the experiences of survivors, and the work being done to protect children and prevent abuse.

Over the years, Brendan covered my work in the Florida Senate and with Lauren’s Kids, including joining us on Florida’s highways and byways for the Walk in My Shoes. He understood the importance of telling difficult stories with care, compassion, and a commitment to the truth.

I’m grateful for the stories he told, the voices he helped amplify, and the difference his journalism made. I am also grateful to have called him my friend.

My heart is with Brendan’s family, his wife Amy, their son, and his many friends and colleagues. Brendan will be deeply, deeply missed.

Survivors, parents, and advocates have fought tirelessly to improve Florida’s gun safety laws in the years since the shootings in Parkland and at Pulse Nightclub. Despite the clear, lifesaving impact, Republican leaders are now putting many of these gains in jeopardy.

This November, voters must elect gun safety champions who will hold the line and fight for public safety. We’re proud to endorse these candidates in their critical campaigns.

25 years later, we remember September 11, and the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken that day.

We remember the mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, friends, and loved ones who never made it home. We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and countless everyday heroes who ran toward danger to help others, many making the ultimate sacrifice.

Their lives, their courage, and their sacrifice remain with us.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Victims of crime — especially child victims of sexual abuse — deserve to be treated with dignity and to have their privacy respected. When that doesn’t happen, it can prevent other children from feeling safe to disclose.
