It's Black Maternal Health Week, and I'm fighting to pass the #Momnibus to save moms' lives. Preventable pregnancy-related deaths are rising in America, even as they fall across the world. I know that, together, we can end this crisis.
Black women are 3-5 times more likely to have a maternal death than white women in the United States.
I was nearly one of them.
This week is Black Maternal Health Week and I want to share my story with you. 🧵
As we talk about Black maternal health, we must acknowledge the trauma of Black parents who must raise children in a world of rampant police violence and systemic racism. We see and love you. We are working for a better and more just world for all of our children. #BMHW21
