@LMTake_@frankcorrado22@thegoldenmuzzy@Jay_D_Rosehill@TLNdc More important than coach is having enough depth for new coach to work with. Imagine if Chayka adds guys so Cowan, Tavares could be on a 3rd line? For yrs, core 4 was blamed but a lot of it was due to the lack of support from Engvall, Mikheyev, Kerfoot, Jarnkrok, Kampf, etc
@DarrenDreger If more things come to light and it is starting to look like Oilers might not be allowed to hire him, Babs will back out and say he thought about but is absolutely enjoying retirment anyways rather than let it play out and tarnish what positive legacy he thinks he has.
@kristen_shilton@wyshynski Hes an ego maniac, no? If he loved retirement, he'd stay in it. Someone like him, despite accolades from years ago, will never want to go out the way he had with CBJ.
@worldhockeyrpt Investigation should be done to see if he is eligible to return and be available to any team not have a team be interested and then check imo
@wyshynski From a players persepctive the trned may be 2 to 3 year contracts, but gms wouldnt want that for fear of every star walking for nothing.
So what's the solution?
@HennyTweets Leafs weren't unsuccessful because of Marner. Roster construction played a huge role. They had 4 guys who all play the same and a real lack of depth Marner's 2026 isnt surprising because he has what a star needs come playoffs time- depth who step up.
@thegoldenmuzzy I hope fans look squarely at the culture the 2 captains have built during this era in Leafs history and the GMs who built these teams as the only reasons this team didnt have success.
@MikeGrinnell_ Leafs need to see what they have in Cowan and McKenna if drafted. If they develop i to true top 6, then its Nylander you move not Knies in a year or 2.
@thegoldenmuzzy@Jay_D_Rosehill Anything said re Marner during time here was accurate based on expectations. Looking at a roster with Hertl +Stone on 3rd line (= to JT + Knies in B6), I think we can admit the Marner hate was overblown considering a) JT and co. caught no heat and b) roster was not built to win
@vikingquest69@JayOnSC@CraigJButton@JayOnrait Nope. It was easy for teams to focus on shutting down 88, 34, 91, and 16 when those guys couldnt find a way to elevate or adjust and teams didnt have to worry about anyone else
