A nation that is forever dancing, cracking jokes and scouting for the next thrill cannot be a smart nation. Entertainment has its place, but when the pursuit of fun becomes our dominant mode of being, it reveals a society addicted to dopamine rather than discipline. Laughter and leisure, when they are the default rather than the occasional release, numb us to the crises that demand sober reflection and deliberate action.
This obsession with casualness and βfunβ is dangerous. When people are constantly distracted by the next viral joke or the next dance challenge or the next celebrity gossip, they stop cultivating the seriousness needed to tackle real problems. A population that refuses to sit still long enough to think critically will always be blindsided by those who exploit their apathy.
It has become easy for politicians, scammers and even religious pastors to manipulate people because our brains are not socialised to think analytically. The moment we are forced to engage deeply, we get bored; we just want to dance, laugh, and move on.
This is how populists thrive, how charlatans prosper, and how institutions decay. Politicians donβt take us seriously because they know they are dealing with a people who have grown to be facetious and prize entertainment over thought and enquiry.
Being casual about life may feel liberating, but it has a hidden cost, it creates citizens who are more entertained than engaged,. It breeds a culture of a citizenry thatβs more more stimulated than strategic. It produces communities that are more playful than purpose driven . A nation cannot progress when its people are permanently tuned to amusement while their communities and institutions rot. Pleasure, ladies and gentlemen, must never replace vigilance.
