Novak Djokovic after his match with Zverev

“Please try to understand Alexander.Alexander gave everything he possibly could today. Even when he wasn’t at 100%, he stood out on that court fighting for every single point, for his fans, and for his legacy. I just hope people can understand the immense expectations and weight he carries on his shoulders”

Novak Djokovic shows immense sportsmanship and defends Alexander Zverev
“Please try to understand Alexander."
Novak revealed that Zverev had been quietly struggling with a heavy physical toll and extreme exhaustion, which heavily weighed on the German star.
“Alexander gave everything he possibly could today. Even when he wasn’t at 100%, he stood out on that court fighting for every single point, for his fans, and for his legacy. I just hope people can understand the immense expectations and weight he carries on his shoulders.”

[Soccer ⚽️ Sheet @SoccerSheet]

Soccer Sheet asked #USWNT head coach Emma Hayes about the United States' early exit from the U-20 World Cup, and what that means for the player development pipeline in the US.

Her answer is detailed, candid, and worth listening to in full:

🚨🚨 𝗠𝗔𝗝𝗢𝗥 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: Cristiano Ronaldo is NOT HAPPY with how his situation was handled by Portugal coach Jorge Jesús and the Portuguese FA.

Ronaldo and Jorge Jesús had AGREED before the international break that he would play in BOTH home matches.

The coach later decided he also wanted Ronaldo involved against Norway, and they agreed Cristiano would come on in the 2nd HALF... But it NEVER happened.

In the end, Cristiano Ronaldo did NOT play vs. Norway as "the match was dictating other ideas"

Ronaldo did NOT like how the situation was handled and now wants a FACE-TO-FACE meeting with Jorge Jesus and the Portuguese FA to clarify everything and make sure he is still fully being COUNTED ON.

Having to find out about the passing of your friend and colleague live on air has to be one of the most gut wrenching experiences of life.

Sergio Agüero on the charges against Manchester City:

🗣️ "These charges were created just to bring down the team, and none of them are true. I spent 10 years at this club, and I know how everything was done, and we won everything the right way.

There are clubs standing behind all of this just to bring down City, because they couldn't handle our success. It's just jealousy, nothing more."

[Salah Updates @SalahUpdates]

❓Jamie Carragher to Andy Robertson:

You just mentioned Mo [Salah], and I want to go back to something from last season, when you were really harsh on Mo, when he came out and made those statements, and obviously I had to agree with the manager about not playing him. But of course you guys have a great relationship, you're the group of players who started with Jürgen Klopp and won everything together. And we all have different perspectives, because sometimes the biggest star on the team is treated differently, and he was the biggest star on the team. How did that affect the dressing room?

🗣️ Andy Robertson:

To be fair to Mo [Salah], it was never like that... Salah was always the first one into the dressing room. It was always like: "No, I'll give my best for these players," Salah never wavered from that.

But I always find it tough, because Mohamed was our biggest star, and he always remained that way even when we were at our best, Salah was always the best.

And when things start going wrong, I think he felt like maybe he was the one taking all the blame, and maybe he was being left out of the lineup, and things like that. And I don't think you can have a player like that on the bench, I think it's similar to what happened with Cristiano Ronaldo when he came back to Manchester United, you can't have a player like that on the bench because they're huge icons.

And the important thing is that some people come to the stadium just to see Mohamed Salah, and some people came to see Cristiano Ronaldo, so it just becomes this constant discussion in every match: "Why isn't he starting? Or, he's starting, so why not...?," and it was simply like that.

And I felt what it meant to Mo [Salah], because Mo in the dressing room is unbelievable, he was amazing at pushing people forward, and trying to make the new players understand what it means to play for Liverpool, and how hard the work is that you have to do. And how you have to give your all.

For what it's worth, numerous MLS clubs have called Wilfried Nancy this year and the answer has been he wanted to focus on Europe.

Who knows if that changed after a summer with no job and the opportunity of LAFC... but that has been the direct feedback

🗣️ Martin Ødegaard after Bernardo Silva’s late kick on his ankle in stoppage time of Norway’s 1-2 loss to Portugal:

“I took a hit on the ankle. It probably won’t be great tonight, but I hope it improves over the next few days. It was a senseless attitude from him. He just took me down long after I’d played the ball. I don’t understand what he’s doing.”

“This has no place on a football pitch. It’s a pity that people act like that, but that’s life.”

Silva, who came on late for Portugal, was booked and did not apologise. Asked about it afterwards, he said: “It’s football, my friend.” 🇳🇴
