Dame’s 2019-2021 peak and Brunson’s 2024-2026 peak are honestly a fascinating comparison because they arrive at elite offense in completely different ways.

Dame was more of a nuclear ecosystem engine. Brunson is more of a surgical halfcourt killer.

Dame from 19-21 was genuinely bending entire defenses:

+5.5 rTS on/off in 2019
+17.8 rTS on/off in 2021
massive boosts to teammate rim frequency
massive boosts to 3PA frequency
entire offenses built around 30 foot pull-up gravity

Portland’s offense completely changed when he stepped on the floor because defenses had to pick him up damn near at halfcourt. Teammates got cleaner rim attempts, cleaner catch and shoot looks, more space everywhere.

And it’s important to remember Dame was doing this in WAY worse offensive environments than Brunson.

Brunson has:

better spacing
better wing creation around him
more shotmaking support
better defensive infrastructure
more lineup versatility
another legitimate creator/scorer next to him

Dame’s Portland offenses were basically trying to survive off of Dame’s advantage creation for years. The fact he was still producing those ecosystem numbers in that environment is honestly ridiculous.

2021 playoffs is probably Dame’s strongest peak argument and for a good reason:

65.7 TS%
+11.8 rTS
41.7 Points Over Expectation

Then the creation stuff gets stupid:

11.7 handler poss/game on 61.3 TS%
+8.5 rTS%
1.09 PPP

7.2 isolation poss/game on 84.5 TS%
+33.2 rTS
1.65 PPP

But Brunson’s 25-26 playoff scoring profile is honestly one of the best isolation/postseason guard peaks we’ve seen recently.

2026 playoffs:

27.5/6.7 per 75
+5.8 rTS
+39.1 Points Over Expectation
+11.6 rORTG on/off
58.7 TS% on 5.1 isolation possessions/game
1.16 PPP in isolation
91st percentile isolation efficiency

And the biggest thing is HOW he scores.

Brunson’s game isn’t really dependent on coverage mistakes. It’s footwork, pacing, strength, counters, balance, manipulation. That stuff survives deeper into playoff environments than pure pull up ecosystems sometimes do.

The Philly series this year was absurd too:
31.6 PPG on 65.2 TS% with +7.3 adj rTS

Meanwhile Dame’s peaks occasionally had volatility vs elite trapping defenses because once the ball got out of his hands the ecosystem weakened a bit.

But Dame’s overall offensive ceiling was still probably higher because of the spacing panic he created. Brunson creates elite offense. Dame created fear.

Both need good defensive ecosystems around them to hide their defensive weaknesses.

But peak Dame’s offensive ecosystem impact was just insane considering the environment:

higher offensive lift
better teamwide spacing impact
more scalable heliocentric offense
greater offensive warping
weaker surrounding ecosystem

Brunson’s probably the more resilient playoff shotmaker possession-to-possession.

Dame was still the more valuable offensive engine overall.

Playoff OFF EPM backs it too:

Dame 2021: +8.1
Brunson 2026: +4.0

I’d still take peak Dame, but Brunson’s current playoff peak is still damn impressive even if people don’t want to admit that

Dame: 8.5 attempts on 37%

Ray: 5.7 attempts on 40%

Dame not only CREATES HIS OWN 3s.. deals with traps, play makes at an elite level.. BUT HE ADD MORE 3PT VALUE THAN ANYONE BUT STEPH.

Ray Allen had 2 seasons shooting more than 8 attemps.. his %? Hmm 38.. way more C&S attempts as well.

Reggie Miller never shot over 6.6 attempts per game and didn’t create like Dame. Next

Klay.. amazing of course, has a much better argument because his volume and % (7.7 - 40%). However he’s not close to the shot creator from 3.
We know majority of his shots are opened up for him.

The spacing he adds by creating all this by himself.. is why those underwhelming Blazer rosters were always T-3 in offense EVERY SEASON.
He’s that ridiculous from distance that it opened up everyone else’s game. Go watch.

Spin back/side step/step back/pull up/leaner.
They cannot do it like him.
