Image of God wrestling with existence; philosophies and ideologies are technologies: build, break, test, discuss, and reiterate.
Your "reality" is your religion.
I say this a lot. The foundation of it is that your capacity to engage with the outside world is founded in the models of that world you have built and adopted from cultural transmission. A more correct model allows you to more correctly predict the outcome of your directions to your body to engage with that real world.
This model is a global composite of several systems. Some model your own mind.
Some model your body and its capabilities.
Some model familiar physical objects.
Some model other human beings, their minds and behaviors.
Some model the environment, generally.
And, some model overall worldview systems, first causes, philosophical systems and more.
No one who is capable of inter-human function does not have these systems. They represent perceived "reality". When our overt understanding of perceived reality is challenged it causes us discomfort. To the extent we would be offended or alarmed at the perceived reality systems of others and seek to evangelize to them that their reality system is false, disabling, stupid, or evil we have treated our own system of models as a god.
It is our religion.

@McClureShawn A cogent critic would realize any message of a monotheistic God would be an INTERNAL message (like 'locked-in syndrome'), so the framework of "meaning" would be entirely different from that of humans framed like neurons inside a social context.
@AtheistPhoenix Even now, you are applying "religion" (a made-up mythologization) to the explanation of a phenomenon you find psychologically disturbing, while not being curious about why you think as you do.
This is an EXCELLENT critique!
It points to the contingent nature of all belief systems founded in social context, including the adoration of the faith-word, "evidence", for which no one has a truly disciplined definition.
In evangelical Christianity he who taught you defines God.
In Islam, he who taught you defines Allah.
In atheism, he who taught you defines "evidence".
In the Socratic method and the Christian theologies growing out of it, Existence itself is your teacher.
The "god" of every faith is the one at whose knee you learn.
@ruinydays@NixSkeevie@AtheistPhoenix In dreams I engage as though the objects of the dream are "real". For their context it is irrelevant for the engagement to be conducted in an ultimate reality.
The engagements frame their own reality.
@NixSkeevie@ruinydays@AtheistPhoenix I love the denial of the gaps mirror image of the God of the gaps. 🙂
There is lots to be explored. Is the erasure of the cult of Solomon as thorough as that of the cult of King Saul?
Don't know.
I also don't know why David, a frank gangster, was rehabilitated.
Time will tell.
@hookskat If a Creator exists is it unreasonable to consider that all that is witnessable in its creation is internal communication?
Do you have "power" to edit the contents of your own mind?
To any thinking person there should be two markers of fundamentalism.
The positive kind knows what it is FOR and strives toward that. Think Elon Musk.
The negative kind knows what it is AGAINST and seeks to build coalitions around that hate. Think atheists, leftists, and Nazis.
You don’t understand leftists if you think the billionaire tax is about money.
Democrats do not care about the cost to society. They do not care about what the money will buy. They want vengeance. They want power. They want control.
This is what motivates the billionaire tax.
