I give South Africa a lot of credit, takes a lot of guts to be as bad as they were and get clowned as much as they were clowned in the opening game, then come back and play two really competitive games to give themselves a chance
South Africa didn’t start their World Cup campaign in the smoothest fashion (off field issues playing a significant part, something Ronwell addressed openly in the press). but when they decided to play football? genuinely one of the most dangerous and exciting African sides in this tournament. Hugo Broos interviewed after the South Korea game spoke beautifully about the togetherness and cohesion built over five years of dedicated work and you could see every single ounce of that on the pitch. responding from a defeat against Mexico, taking a point against Czechia and then beating South Korea to book their spot in the Round of 32 is no small feat whatsoever. massive congratulations.
They’ve actually gone and bloody done in… South Africa qualify!!!!
I hold my hands up and say you guys proved me wrong, BIG TIME. After that first game especially, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that South Africa were getting grouped.
Fair play and congratulations! 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Heroic from South Africa, as they defeat Korea 1-0 and become the second African nation to qualify for the knockout stages of this World Cup
As things stand, 7/10 African teams are projected to make the Round of 32... it isn't Africa that's diluting quality of the World Cup
