President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on businesses in South Africa to remove prior work experience requirements for job positions, in a bid “to boost the employability of South Africa’s job-seeking youth.” It’s unclear if he intends to table the matter before the Constitutional Court to legally declare qualifications, skills & experience requirements illegal, unlawful, vexatious & unconstitutional.

I personally hold no brief for Cyril, but he has a point. I quote some of the recent successes in his government as a result of overlooking relevant qualifications, skills & experience:
• Our revered Minister of Police - who has since fashioned himself as a General of sorts, is an Early Childhood Development teacher by trade. Crime has been under control ever since he took over.
• The Roads & Rail Transport portfolio is well-looked after by a nurse midwife.
• A pharmacist is doing a great job turning around our State-Owned Enterprises which are mostly mega-engineering or specialised technical firms.
• You lot have dams, reservoirs & abundant, piped, clean drinking water all thanks to our Minister & his BA in Education & International Relations.
• The Small Business Development gig is blessed with someone who has never even run a lemonade stall in her life- yet entrepreneurship is booming under her.
• Our Tourism industry is thriving - all thanks to our Minister who is only armed with a Matric Certificate.
• Etc.

@sarstax collected a staggering R2.7tn in gross tax revenue in the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

That is R2,700,000,000,000.
That's 2,700 BILLIONS or 2,7 million MILLIONS.

I want to just illustrate how much money that is and how much @MYANC failed us this past year:

Public Infrastructure and Development: This amount of money could significantly contribute to the development of infrastructure in South Africa. For instance, the Gautrain rapid rail system had an estimated cost of around R30 billion. With R2.7 trillion, you could fund the construction of approximately 90 Gautrain-like projects across the country.

Housing: Considering the cost of an RDP house is approximately R255,364, R2.7 trillion could build over 10 million RDP houses, significantly addressing housing shortages and homelessness.

Education: The average cost of building a basic public school in South Africa can be around R30 million. With R2.7 trillion, it would be possible to build approximately 90,000 new schools, vastly improving access to education.

Healthcare: The Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the world, was refurbished at a cost of about R1 billion. With R2.7 trillion, you could theoretically build or refurbish 2,700 hospitals of similar scale.

Social Grants: South Africa's social grant system is a significant part of its social welfare. Assuming an average social grant of R1,860 per month per person, R2.7 trillion could fund the social grants of approximately 120 million people for a year, more than double South Africa's entire population.

Job Creation: Assuming an average annual salary of R300,000 in South Africa, R2.7 trillion could potentially fund the salaries of 9 million people for a year, which could make a significant impact in reducing unemployment.

National Debt: As of early 2023, South Africa's national debt was around R4 trillion. R2.7 trillion could cover a substantial portion of this debt, significantly alleviating the country's financial burden.

Renewable Energy Projects: Large-scale renewable energy projects like wind farms and solar parks can cost billions of Rands. For example, the Jasper Solar Power Project, one of the largest in Africa, cost around R2.3 billion. With R2.7 trillion, hundreds of similar projects could be funded, greatly advancing South Africa's renewable energy capacity.

The 'best' governments simply defend your rights and enforce the law. They ensure a level of basic physical safety and infrastructure, which people can then build upon.

Actually creating wealth, value, success, charity, and legacy is up to individuals, families, communities, and private entities.

People expect way too much from the government and as a result the gov just grows, fails more, and becomes increasingly overbearing and bloated. Then people inevitably demand they do even more, instead of less.

I think this mentality is common because a lot of people don't really trust themselves.

If you insist the government is responsible for your success, you will blame the government for your failures too.

This is exactly what happened with their failed #etolls scheme. It failed because it was never able to be functional, the financing model was a disaster, as was its systems, enforcement etc. It was also a scheme that had corrupt intentions at its core. The same issues and fate will beset the NHI.

What stops a government that has proven its fondness for corruption, tax abuse and mismanagement, to turn it into yet another looting scheme while yet again forsaking the most vulnerable people in the country?

Another massive corruption scandal, this time in the Department of Social Development:

A contract was given to Vodacom from The department of Social Development, worth
R20 Million a month to run the Gender Based Violence call centres around the country. Vodacom did an excellent job, everything worked. Bear in mind the department did not pay R20 million because Vodacom was doing a lot of the work for free. When the contract lapsed, the tender was given to a brand new BEE company with absolutely no experience in call centre. The owners of this new company allegedly have links to Minister Lindiwe Zulu. The value of the monthly payment was increased to a staggering R46 MILLION per month. The entire call centre operation has TOTALLY COLLAPSED. The new company cannot even offer 10% of the services previously provided but they still get the full R46 MILLION payment every month. Basically for doing nothing. Vodacom was matching rand for rand as a CSI
The department rejected the donation and opted to pay R46 MILLION per month. Minister Zulu, yesterday on TV claimed all is good and nothing has collapsed. Immediately after that the very brave deputy minister, Hendrietta Bogopane Zulu, appeared on TV and confirmed that the call centres have collapsed and nothing is working.
Amaqabane Ka Tambo are on rampage mode, they stealing everything . Cry the beloved country.
