How do you define the success of a field campaign? We may not have collected the samples we were hoping for… BUT (with an amazing team, solid logistics, and a few sleepless nights) we did show what was possible! @EIlyinskaya@EmmaLiu31@FeiWangUM@Svarmi@advojunior
Well, yesterday afternoon was exciting to say the least. Magma intruded into the dyke but didn't make it to the surface to erupt. Are we disappointed that we didn't get measurements of the eruption start like we planned? Yes and no 🧵
Leeds Volcanologists @EIlyinskaya@WainmanLaura@JoSepuAraya have been sampling at the #LitliHrutur eruption in Iceland. This work will improve our understanding of particle composition and size distribution in the volcanic plume - important for air quality hazard assessments.
Presenting my current work on Boron in Kamchatka to trace the volatile subduction sources of mafic arc volcanics at #Goldschmidt2023. Come check it out at poster board #196, looking forward to having some interesting discussions. #WomenInSTEM#geochemistry#kamchatka @IGTLeeds
Ready to present my poster later at @goldschmidt2023 discussing sources of mantle heterogeneity in the Canary Islands, with evidence from Melt Inclusions 🌋 come check it out if you're interested!
Another one of our postgraduate volcanologists @R0sielewis has been doing an amazing job in Montserrat installing temporary volcanic gas sensors. Incredible work👏
Successfully retrieved our temporarily installed @quant_aq SO2 + PM sensor from St George’s Hill today thanks to @mvoms. This data will help us to assess #AirQuality in a future tourism site. Image thanks to @mvoms. Plume thanks to #SoufrièreHillsVolcano 🌋
Full melt inclusion squad in the lab today 💪🔬🪨 mounting and polishing olivines from volcanoes all over 🌋: Chile, Kamchatka and the Canaries!

Great to be back in the CNR labs in Pisa processing that Boron for my Kamchatka samples🧪👩🔬Especially lovely to be on my first trip with my supervisor ! Hasn’t just been all columns 🙄 #womeninstem#CNR#volcanologist#Kamchatka#geochemist
🚨JOB ALERT!🚨Searching for a #postdoc in #volcanology or igneous petrology? 🌋 Join the exciting #invest_eos project at @EOS_SG looking at volcano-tectonic interactions and hazards in SE Asia. Short listing begins in late March. Apply here: https://t.co/h6hTxj7j3r
HUGE NEWS 🚨!!! We have a new Dr of Volcanology 🌋 Congratulations @GeoKevW who defended his amazing work on the magmatism of Ethiopia last week 🌍 All of us remaining in the @LeedsVolc team will miss you dearly! Good luck with your next adventure 🥳
Some more amazing outreach from the @IGTLeeds Volcanologists!! Thanks to @R0sielewis who showcased some spectacular samples and pictures when she was home last week. Many more volcanologists pending....
Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Year 3 & 5 @BlanchelandeC , to follow on from a talk I gave at the school last year. I was really impressed by the children’s knowledge about volcanoes and it was great to see how excited they were to hear about ongoing research!🌋📚
