Russia invaded on 24 February 2022. That decision massively escalated the war. But describing it as simply “unprovoked” erases NATO expansion, Maidan, the far right’s political role, eight years of war in Donbass, failed Minsk agreements and failed security talks. (24/24)

Azov’s early movement used Nazi-linked imagery and included open neo-Nazis. Its founder, Andriy Biletsky, came from the Ukrainian far right. The broader Azov movement later developed political and youth wings. (14/24)
