You aren't paying for your own social security.
You're paying for people that are already retired and your children and grandchildren will pay for your social security.
There's no world where that $540k grows by "investment".
CAN SOMEONE WALK ME THROUGH HOW THIS MAKES SENSE
By the time I retire at 67, I'll have paid roughly $540,000 into Social Security between my contributions and my employer's match.
If that same money had just sat in an index fund averaging 7%, it would be worth about $2.4M. The dividends alone off that would be $168,000 a year.
Instead, the government is projecting I'll get $2,950 a month at 67. That's about $35,400 a year.
Someone explain the gap between those two numbers, because I genuinely don't understand where the rest of it goes.
As with AES' current polling in Michigan, a win is a win but this is a significant underperformance relative to the congressional generic ballot or where the governor's race is. Craig would've been a lot better.
This is the dumbest analysis imaginable. Democrats lost because they re-nominated an 82 yo unpopular incumbent and when he had a health event on stage they replaced him w the unpopular VP they clearly had no confidence in. Voters didn’t like that she was a CA progressive, so she tried to shake that off by running a completely different campaign, but refused to distance herself from her unpopular boss. This left voters without a clear sense of who she was. She made a lousy VP pick that added almost nothing to the campaign. This is why she lost. Her ONE DAY with Liz Cheney is not. I didn’t consult for her campaign or advise it in any way, only said yes to helping when asked to moderate an event, because I desperately wanted her to win. Part of the reasons Dems struggle is they are unwilling to look facts about voters square in the face and love to pretend the world is different than it is. But you can’t win going forward if you can’t be honest about why your candidate lost. And if you’re looking to blame people for Trump winning, look no further than all the folks who couldn’t be bothered to vote for Kamala because she wasn’t pure enough for them.
My hottest take is that you shouldn't watch people die violently. Even objectively bad people. It robs something in your soul and you can't get it back.
this cannot be allowed to happen it is genuinely the tipping point into full blown fascism, not letting this happen should be our biggest priority, people will get addicted to it, there will be compilation videos, it will be the most disgusting thing thats never happened before
Maybe I have more faith in your precious mayor than you do because I actually think the protests might stir his conscience and push him in the right direction
My only thoughts on the protests against Mamdami, not that anyone cares.
"I agree with you; I want to do it; now make me do it"
They are 100% in the right
Her name is Cereese Qusba.
She’s a student journalist at The Cornell Daily Sun, and she spent nearly TWO YEARS pursuing the story of the alleged gang rape at Cornell when much of the campus had moved on.
She built trust with Jane Doe. She kept digging. And when the lawsuit was filed, she was ready. Now the case has a special prosecutor and national attention.
This is why journalism matters. Give Cereese Qusba her flowers.
The most horrifying thing I’ve seen on here is people arguing that you can’t withdraw consent in the middle of sex.
You absolutely can. This goes for both parties. You do not owe anyone sex. It’s your body and you can change your mind. What the fuck
@adamscochran@CantEverDie Do you think the GOP posting clips of a twitch streamer is the sign of a strong campaign message?
Do you have so little faith in democratic voters that you think they'll stay home because they saw a clip of a twitch streamer?
People are allowed to have opinions on candidates
I’ve never seen it this bad on here. I don’t even know if the accounts I’m seeing are real people or not but the language is pretty disgusting and scary. It’s not funny or fun anymore. It’s over
Thank you to the Chicago Tribune for burying the lede as deeply as humanly possible to avoid acknowledge that Chicago Homicides are lower YTD than any other point in my entire lifetime
God forbid the newspaper says that in a headline, which could INFORM people about this fact
Despite the fines and mounting pressure, Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair continues to honour Palestinian children killed in Gaza.
This time, it’s Lana, 12, and Bana, 8, who were killed alongside their family in an Israeli attack earlier this month.
Underestimate @RahmEmanuel at your own risk. He knows how to win. He knows how to fight. And he knows how to message.
And no one will out work him. Regardless of whether he wins the Democratic nomination in 2028 he will make an impact on the race. You can be sure of that. Don't take your eyes off of him. At the minimum, learn from him.
