For the past 13 years, advocate Anita Jha has practised law from the backseat of her car inside the Madhubani district court complex — a daily act of resistance in a system she says denied women lawyers even basic workspace.

After being refused a chamber and facing years of humiliation for demanding one, Jha turned her white hatchback into a moving office, where she meets clients, drafts pleadings, and prepares cases from morning till evening.

From being the only woman in her law batch to handling nearly 20,000 cases over 28 years, her journey reflects grit, defiance, and the quiet persistence of women navigating India’s male-dominated judicial spaces.
