Our #CashFirst trial is in the @guardian today, we are so grateful to the families that made this possible.
So pleased that the voices of some of the families we work with are in the guardian today, talking baout the cash first trial we ran together

We’re presenting Co-Design in Action: Sharing Stories on Stage at the BPS Community Psychology Festival 2025 , centring participants’ voices from our Cash First trial and premiering “Co-Designing Dignity: The Cash First Story”, the UK’s first Cash First film 🎬 @IFAN_UK
We’ll use these findings to push for a Cash First approach when Lewisham delivers its Crisis & Resilience Fund in 2026.

Lewisham’s Food Insecurity Crisis.
The only food insecurity data for the borough is out now, and it shows how urgent the situation is 1/4 @IFAN_UK@sabineegoodwin
This is part of our Cash First Trial, building on our 2021 pilot.
In June 2025, 30 participants received cash support for 4 weeks, testing 3 different payment methods. Trial results will be released mid-October. 3/4
Despite pausing plans to cut PIP, the government is continuing with devastating cuts to Universal Credit ✂️
This will still plunge many more disabled people into poverty.
We urge the government to withdraw the bill. And co-produce reforms with disabled people.
As @sarzogz says, the govt has said it's its moral mission to eradicate child poverty. The only way it can start to do that is by scrapping the two-child limit.
It pulls 109 kids into poverty every day.
If it doesn't, child poverty will be higher at the end of this parliament
"These facts underline that these cuts are not an economic necessity."
It's rare to see such consensus about the dangers of the disability benefit cuts from so many organisations & charities. Read & share the briefing:

We’re so grateful to all the MPs bravely taking a stand. Disabled people, carers & food banks are terrified about the potentially devastating consequences if these massive cuts to disability support go ahead. They need as many MPs as possible to stand with them on this.
The new Crisis and Resilience Fund has the potential to support the Government's ambition to end mass dependence on emergency food parcels but we need to reframe the concept of crisis... @sabineegoodwin for @BigIssue#CashFirst

📣 What did we actually do?
Our Cash First trial ran for 4 weeks.
30 people received direct cash support — shaped by community voices, not top-down decisions. 1/3
@sabineegoodwin@IFAN_UK
This wasn’t just about handing out money. We co-designed the trial, paid people for their insight, and tested 3 different payment methods to see what really works.
We will use our findings to push for cash-first support through funds like the new Crisis & Resilience Fund. 2/3
This is such amazing news, and will make a huge difference for families living in poverty in Scotland: https://t.co/vsm7uzT1nx
@Keir_Starmer we now need this for families across the UK.
Our latest report details the disproportionate impact of poverty and inequality on disabled people and how the government's Green Paper proposals will only deepen poverty and further entrench inequality.

Always a joy restocking our #UnderTheRainbow#Phonebox on #DeptfordHighStreet . The new CCTV has done a brilliant job in protecting this community hub whilst NOT stoping the staggering numbers who seeks its help , donate their own bits whilst seeking 2 swap & share daily
This isn’t about testing people — it’s about testing systems.
We’re asking: Which method of payment will be preferred and why?
Because cash isn’t just for crises — it’s about dignity, autonomy, and the power to choose. 4/4
We’ve been talking about our #CashFirst trial — now we’re digging into the why.
Week 3 of 4: 30 people receiving direct cash, co-designed with communities, rooted in trust & dignity.
Cash in a crisis isn’t radical — it’s necessary.

We’re using Participatory Action Research and community psychology principles — methods that prioritise lived experience, equity, and real-change.
This isn’t just data collection. It’s about shifting power. 3/4
