#Isles Matthew Schaefer at 18 years, 223 days is youngest ever winner of Calder Trophy, one day younger than Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon in 2014. He’s also the first unanimous recipient since Teemu Selanne (original Winnipeg Jets) in 1993.
I’m told the #Isles are recalling top forward prospect Victor Eklund (2025, No. 16) for their season finale vs. #CarolinaCulture after posting 9 points (2G, 7A) in his first 7 AHL games.
We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our friend and SiriusXM NHL Network Radio host Jim Boomer Gordon. After a courageous battle with cancer, Boomer passed away this week surrounded by his loved ones. He will be greatly missed by us all, on and off the air.
Ilya Sorokin steals another win for the Islanders, his league-leading 10th.
4.66 goals saved above expected in 1-0 win.
He's stopped more inner slot shots than any goalie despite playing 8 fewer games than others.
Should be unanimous Vezina pick right now.

Since he hasn’t done much through six games, I guess it’s good to know that Matthew Schaefer had the hardest shot taken in the #NHL last night.
#TheSkinny may have to become #TheSchaefer. #Isles#NHL#NHLEdge

Well deserved.

#Isles News: New York Islanders forward Matt Martin announced his retirement from the National Hockey League today after 15 NHL seasons.
Islanders General Manager and Executive Vice President Mathieu Darche has named Martin a Special Assistant to the General Manager.
As I reported Thurs, the #Isles have offered a 2-year extension to keep Kyle Palmieri. The two sides are speaking later this morning, upon which a decision will be made (sign him or move him). There's been trade interest in Palmieri, as well as J-G Pageau & even Anders Lee.
