Today’s beautiful sunrise at the Boat Meadow beach. The perfect blend of calmness and amazement to start the day.

We cannot allow people around the world to get used to terrorist attacks. The target of all these missiles is not just cities, villages or people. Their target is humanity and the foundations of our entire European culture. Last night, a Russian missile – it was an X-22, an anti-ship missile – hit the altar of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral in Odesa... One of the most valuable cathedrals in Ukraine. In 1936 it was looted and destroyed by the Bolsheviks. The cathedral was restored in independent Ukraine. And now terrorists are trying to destroy it again. Last night alone, nearly 50 buildings in Odesa were damaged, 25 of them architectural monuments. The historic center. A world heritage site that UNESCO has taken under its protection. The building of the Greek Consulate was also damaged, and this is already the second consular office in Odesa to be hit by Russian terror. Only three days ago, another such attack damaged the building of the Chinese Consulate. Obviously, all this is a global threat. The destruction of cities, the destruction of culture, the destruction of ports that are fundamental to the world's food security. There has never been a terrorist capable of overcoming the world, and these Kremlin madmen will not succeed either.

Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.
To Don Jr, the Little Trump who couldn’t:
While you seem to have inherited your father's talent for firing off tweets, you unfortunately also received his inability to develop coherent thoughts.
First, Joe Biden is only three years older than your father.
That means your father is old.
Second, I am going to admit it. President Biden might be old. But…
Your father is deranged.
Your father is cruel.
Your father is dishonest.
Your father is malignantly narcissistic.
Your father is disloyal to country.
Your father is cultish.
Your father is ignorant.
Your father is authoritarian.
Your father is corrupt.
Your father is lawless.
I'l take old over all that bad
in a heartbeat.
Now about you:
you continue to prove that intelligence is nowhere to be found in your DNA.
It’s truly amazing how someone can inherit so much and still accomplish so little.
It’s amazing how after all these years of your father barely giving you a second glance, you’re here everyday while desperately clinging onto your dad's coat tails like a toddler at the mall.
While you continue to bask in the inherited privilege of your last name, pretending to be the voice of the people, you are nothing more than a misguided megaphone for your father's ego.
Your father will never love you. Give it up and keep my president’s name out of your staggeringly stupid mouth.
Neerja Bhanot was a flight attendant on Pan Am Flight 73 when it was hijacked in Pakistan by Palestinian terrorists on September 5, 1986. She helped the pilots escape, saved American passengers from execution, and opened the emergency door so hundreds could jump to safety. Ultimately, she was killed while shielding three children from gunfire.
Twenty-two-year-old Indian air hostess Neerja Bhanot was always a woman of courage and convictions. Despite the traditions of her culture and her family's protests, she left her arranged marriage when her husband proved abusive. Then she struck out on her own and began working as both a model and a flight attendant for Pan Am. But shortly after she began her new career in the skies, disaster struck when a flight she was working was hijacked by four terrorists in 1986. Though she was new to the job, she proved to be the greatest hero of the entire ordeal. Over the course of 17 harrowing hours, she helped both the pilots and hundreds of passengers to escape. In the end, she was killed while using her body to protect three children from gunfire.
Bhanot was posthumously awarded medals of bravery from India, Pakistan, and the United States. And one of the children she saved grew up to be a pilot himself and credited Bhanot for his decision.
Visibility is so powerful. The LGBTQ community are under attack by the right - wing. (Again) Creating entertainment that represents the queer experience gives us strength and hope. It gives us inspiration. It makes us shed some of that shame and self-loathing that we grow up with. I'm so thrilled to be an artist during this time. There's still work to be done, but I am very proud of how far we have come, and what we have overcome. 🌈 #SharewithPride #PrideMusicMoment
.No, Rick. Do you want to know why? History. The term “white boy” was not used as a derogatory slur during the Jim Crow era like “boy” was used when referring to or talking to a black man. The slur is still used in parts of the south.
The friend could have very easily said, “the young black man” but that wouldn’t have had the intended effect.
.I can’t comprehend a friend asking this question. But what floored me was the “black BOY, did you?” I would not have the patience or wherewithal to provide a respectful response. The reference to BOY is a derogatory word in and of itself. And the “did you” presumes you would be critical of your daughter’s choice to date a person of color. I commend your ability to refrain from giving the reactionary response of GFY that I would have given.
Let me point out what would have my response and should have been your friend’s response had she not been a racist — what a handsome young man and they make a beautiful couple. I hope you dump the so-called friend.
“Today my daughter changed her profile picture. After maybe 5 minutes I get a text …’ I didn’t know she was dating a black boy, did you?’
It took me all day to think up a response, which I didn’t send personally but thought I would share for anyone else that ‘may not know’.
Yes in fact I did know, but the color of his skin doesn’t define who he is. What does define who is he is how he treats my daughter.
I see my daughter dating a boy that comes to my house and shows me nothing but respect (a big deal in my book). It’s always Yes Ma’am, No Ma’am, we talk about football and baseball, he tells me bye when he leaves, and has not once shown me a lack of manners or respect.
I see my daughter dating a boy who treats her good. He takes her on dates, to ballgames, out to eat… not to a club or partying on the weekends.
I see my daughter dating a boy who takes her to church with him. Every Sunday. He plays in the band, she sits with his family. How many young men these days make church a priority? None of the others have.
He doesn’t hit her, cuss her, lie to her, or make her cry. Would I rather her date a white boy that did, to keep from her dating another race? Absolutely not.
So that’s my response to the question I was asked. And I know people have their own opinion, but at the end of the day, the fact that my daughter has someone that loves her and treats her like a queen makes me happy. That’s something I’ve never had in my life and I’m glad she does.”
