Paramount and Warner Bros. will officially combine into one mega-studio with a familiar name: Skydance.
Skydance has been active since 2006, primarily producing franchise titles and action films. Here are some takeaways from the company’s track record that could offer clues about where the combined Paramount-Warner Bros. is headed:
• Skydance plays favorites, and its favorite favorite is unquestionably Tom Cruise. Expect more collaborations between the action icon and Ellison, even if “Mission: Impossible” was put to bed (for now).
• One of the most valuable assets Ellison acquired in the merger is Warner Bros.’ vast library of IP, so expect plenty of reboots, revivals and franchise expansions.
• Action, action and more action.
• Skydance certainly produced some of the biggest hits at the box office in recent years, but the company has also focused extensively on made-for-streaming films and their sequels.
