Meet Stuart!
Stuart Robinson - ParalympicsGB
Stuart was introduced to wheelchair rugby as part of his rehabilitation from his fourth tour of Afghanistan where he lost both his legs in an explosion.
Stuart was on a routine patrol near Camp Bastion in 2013, when his vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The force was so strong, he was thrown 30 feet through the air. The explosion left him with life changing injuries; he lost his lower left leg, and his right was shattered and later had to be amputated. Stuart also sustained severe damage to his right arm, 18 spinal fractures and three fractures to his jaw.
He was put into an induced coma for six weeks, and doctors were unsure if he would survive. When he woke up, and while recovering in hospital he had to make the heart-breaking decision to have his right leg removed.
Stuart is a two-time Invictus Games medallist in wheelchair rugby and is also a two-time European champion after making his international debut in Germany for the 2017 Europeans.
His drive and determination from his military past showed in the Paralympic final, where he scored 14 tries in the 54-49 victory over the USA for an historic golden triumph.
Away from rugby, Stuart is an ambassador for the RAF Benevolent Fund and is actively involved with many military charities.
Go Stuart!
