Overseas Raiders in the Cup

Since 08, its been fairly even: horses with 1–2 Aus leadup runs & those straight off the plane ✈️ have won 3 Cups each.

No-Aus-run horses also have more 2nds & Top 5s.

In short: ratings & form >having an Aus run or not

- 2x Caul/Melbourne cup doubles
- 2x Caul/Melbourne cup “near miss” doubles
- 4x Melbourne cup winners

In the past 12 Melbourne Cups, 18 of the 24 quinella horses (75%) had a race start between 10 June & 2 Aug.

So, 3/4 of the horses that finished 1st/2nd had already raced in this small 54 day window.

Only ONE horse finished in the First 4 - Knights Choice.
