Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) regional members received a complaint from security guards who were working the night shift at a graveyard about people digging up graves.

The officers responded swiftly and rushed to the graveyard. Upon arrival, they found three people inside the grave, busy digging. When the three suspects were questioned, they could not account for what they were doing and where they got the permission to dig up the graves.

Among the three suspects was a Sangoma. They were allegedly looking for dead people’s bones for muti purposes. The suspects tried to offer a bribe of R1 500. They were then arrested for violation of graveyard regulations, malicious damage to property and bribery.

Well done to the TMPD members! The TMPD will continue to combat crime in Tshwane.

Mercy Ntsako Mashaba went missing after travelling to visit her boyfriend in Sunnyside, Tshwane, on 20 December 2020. She called her family to let them know she had arrived safely. However, the following day, her phone was switched off.

When her family contacted her boyfriend, he reportedly told them that Mercy had gone to the post office and never returned. A missing person case was opened at the Sunnyside police station. According to the family, they were later informed that investigators had obtained an arrest warrant after uncovering certain information, but the investigation eventually went cold.

Mercy has remained missing since December 2020, and her family is still searching for answers. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to contact 071 483 6611.

COCAINE WORTH R28 MILLION SEIZED AT OR TAMBO AIRPORT | The police, working together with key law enforcement partners, has intercepted a consignment of cocaine worth an estimated R28 million at OR Tambo International Airport.

On Friday, 31 July 2026, an intelligence-driven operation was successfully executed following information received from SAPS Crime Intelligence’s Border Integrity Unit regarding a suspected drug consignment.

The information was operationalised by members of the SAPS Visible Policing Unit at OR Tambo International Airport, in collaboration with Customs officials and Menzies Aviation operational members.

The cargo, which had arrived on a flight from São Paulo, Brazil, was intercepted immediately upon arrival at approximately 13:00. The 95 kilograms of cocaine were seized at the cargo section of OR Tambo International Airport.

No arrests have been effected at this stage. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved in the attempted smuggling operation.
